terminal not opening, background not changing in vnc

Hi,

I am using icewm in the latest ubuntu dist as my vnc server windows
dist. A couple of issues I am having are as follows:

I cannot get icewem to open a terminal window. xterm works ok and opens
ok, but I prefer a terminal.

Also, I cannot get my background color to change. It is some chainlink
looking thing and I just want plain black. I used preferences as follows
in my .icewm/prefernces file:

DesktopBackgroundColor = black
TaskBarAutoHide = 1


Now when I use icewm as a standard login (not vnc) on my machine, the
background works fine, but terminal still does not open.

Any ideas where to start looking?

Terminal from the menu. I dont see where I have an

update-alternatives utility anywhere.

And I just saw the background reply. I am using icewem in vnc.

icewmbg -r
Xlib:  extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":1.0".
icewmbg: using /home/bruce3/.icewm for private configuration files
Xlib:  extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":1.0".

Still no backrgorund change. Still have the small chainlink fence
looking background.

Here is my .icewm files:

preferences
DesktopBackgroundColor = black
TaskBarAutoHide = 1

Root found it.


There are 5 alternatives which provide `x-terminal-emulator'.

  Selection    Alternative
-----------------------------------------------
          1    /usr/bin/xterm
          2    /usr/bin/uxterm
          3    /usr/bin/koi8rxterm
          4    /usr/bin/lxterm
*+        5    /usr/bin/gnome-terminal.wrapper

Press enter to keep the default[*], or type selection number: 5
Using '/usr/bin/gnome-terminal.wrapper' to provide 'x-terminal-emulator'.

This selection, gnome-terminal, doesnt do anything when I clock on
terminal in the menu. If I change it to 1, then a regular xterm opens
up-not what I desire. I want the scroll bar and such of a terminal
window. Any idea why the gnome-terminal.wrapper doesnt work?


Tryign to execute manually:

/usr/bin/gnome-terminal.wrapper
Xlib:  extension "RANDR" missing on display ":1.0".
Xlib:  extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":1.0".
Xlib:  extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":1.0".
Xlib:  extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":1.0".
Failed to contact the GConf daemon; exiting.

Any idea how to start the GConf daemon?
