> > With Thinstation 2.2.2 I had some problems booting some PCs. And before
> > trying to debug and perhaps rebuild the whole thing I thought perhaps I
> > should first try the 2.3 beta. On the Sourceforge download page there
> > are these files for download:
> >
> > - Thinstation-2.3beta2.tar.gz
>
> Is the build environment for Thinstation 2.3beta2
>
> > - thinstation_src-2.3beta1.tar.bz2
>
> Is the source for compiling the kernel, libraries and programs used in
> thinstation 2.3beta1.
> >
> > Judging from the file names, there is a slight version mismatch here. Is
> > there a source archive for the 2.3beta2, or which patches/updates
> > exactly do I need?
>
> It was MOSTLY script updates (ie. in the build environment) between
> 2.3beta1 & 2.3beta2, but there were a couple of recompiles/version
> upgrades.
>
> >From the ChangeLog:
> * Recompiled kernel & modules to include sata support + others
> * Update wpa_supplicant to 0.5.10 & madwifi to 0.9.4
> * upgrade xtdesktop to version 0.7
> * upgrade icewm to version 1.2.35
> * Updated busybox to 1.9.2
> I will try an generate a delta package soon (I was ;ooking at it for a
> previous request - I hadn't forgotten, just hadn't finished it yet).

There is now a delta to include 2.3b2 extras in 2.3b1 source (except
rhgd, which I can't find)

Trevor B

> >
> > I am aware that "beta" software cannot/shouldnot usually be trusted. But
> > if it allows me to boot those clients and have them connect through
> > rdesktop, I think I am not going to be bothered much. No other features
> > are needed at this stage (well, chipset, network and display drivers). I
> > would like to complete my little project in about two weeks.
> >
> >From the perspective of compiling anything (including newer kernels),
> 2.3beta1 source is fine.
> >
> 2.3b3 is nearly ready, except for some niggly issues re: international
> keyboards, but if you are using US keyboards, go for it (out of SVN).

Correct, mozilla & firefox forums have been full of this since day 1 and
it has been studiously ignored by the devs.
> The only way to get fullscreen in TS is to install one of the 3 party
> I'm getting so tired of firefox that is getting worse for each version

There is a way of getting prism to do this, and you can even turn off
chrome (true full screen), but you need to change the json settings.

I don't think the current prism package has this quite right (yet).
> fine but it takes down our network since it is now the gateway address...
> ...

I'm pretty sure this is not a ThinStation issue. This is your DHCP server
not really reserving the .200 address for the gateway.

This next question is rhetorical because I don't have DHCP running on a
Windows Server... What method have you used to tell the Windows Server to
reserve the .200 IP address? The DHCP server doesn't watch the network to
see which IP addresses are used.

  I would either ...
    1. Change the IP address of the router to be outside of your DHCP
address range. Since you are using DHCP, this should be relatively easy.

    2. Change the range of IP addresses assigned to DHCP.

They are both different sides of the same coin, but would simplify your
setup.

A third option is to assign the .200 address to your gateway from the DHCP
server by mac address, so the DHCP server would know it was assigned. This
has the possible failure of the gateway address assigned to another
workstation if the gateway hasn't been up for a while. How long depends on
your timeout values. If it is set to 1 day, as many are, it would take the
gateway being down for 24 hours for the DHCP server to assign that IP
address to another machine. This is unlikely unless the power or the
gateway were to fail, for example, over the weekend without people noticing.
> >> Hi.
> >>
> >> After running TS2.2.2 with the original ICA9 package for some time I thought
> >> it was time to move over to ICA11. After "some" modification to the
> >> ica11_TS-2.2.tar.gz package I finally got it up and running on our test
> >> farm. Now there is only one problem left, getting the ICA encryption to
> >> work. It works flawless without encryption but as soon as I activate the
> >> encryption I get "You do not have the proper encryption level to access this
> >> session". I've tried the exact same config files on a standard linux install
> >> and it works and I used the exact same config files with the old ICA9
> >> package and it worked.
> >>
> >> Is there anyone out there using the ICA11 package and got it working with
> >> the encryption or has any idea as to what could be wrong?
> >
> >Please share your alterations to the ica11_TS-2.2.tar.gz package.
> >Neither Trevor nor I have access to a Citrix server, so we depend on
> >user contribs.
> >
>
> Had time for some more testing today. Most of my modifications to the ICA11 package where related to moving the files from /lib/ICAClient to /usr/lib/ICAClient . I started from scratch today with a clean TS2.2.2 build, and it seems that all my problems were related to me "upgrading" from ICA9 to ICA11 on my TS-build. ICA11 worked great from /lib/ICAClient now, and the encryption worked like a charm too.
>
> Two thumbs down for me not testing this first, two thumbs up for Thinstation :)

And two thumbs up for testing it AND feeding back the positive
confirmation to the list.

Often people fix their problems, but we have NO idea if the package is
correct or they did some mod to fix.

So feedback is essential.

Thanks
Trevor B
> With Thinstation 2.2.2 I had some problems booting some PCs. And before
> trying to debug and perhaps rebuild the whole thing I thought perhaps I
> should first try the 2.3 beta. On the Sourceforge download page there
> are these files for download:
>
> - Thinstation-2.3beta2.tar.gz

Is the build environment for Thinstation 2.3beta2

> - thinstation_src-2.3beta1.tar.bz2

Is the source for compiling the kernel, libraries and programs used in
thinstation 2.3beta1.
>
> Judging from the file names, there is a slight version mismatch here. Is
> there a source archive for the 2.3beta2, or which patches/updates
> exactly do I need?

It was MOSTLY script updates (ie. in the build environment) between
2.3beta1 & 2.3beta2, but there were a couple of recompiles/version
upgrades.

>From the ChangeLog:
* Recompiled kernel & modules to include sata support + others
* Update wpa_supplicant to 0.5.10 & madwifi to 0.9.4
* upgrade xtdesktop to version 0.7
* upgrade icewm to version 1.2.35
* Updated busybox to 1.9.2
I will try an generate a delta package soon (I was ;ooking at it for a
previous request - I hadn't forgotten, just hadn't finished it yet).
>
>
>

I'm unsure if the problem lies with TS 2.2.2 or Firefox 3.0.
> should first try the 2.3 beta. On the Sourceforge download page there
> are these files for download:
>
> - Thinstation-2.3beta2.tar.gz
> - thinstation_src-2.3beta1.tar.bz2
>
> Judging from the file names, there is a slight version mismatch here. Is
> there a source archive for the 2.3beta2, or which patches/updates
> exactly do I need?

There isn't any difference on source level between beta1 and beta2 -
it's bug fixing in scripts. You can always try out the SVN version of
2.3. It doesn't come eny newer. Mind you, international keyboards are
broken with xorg 7.3.

> I am aware that "beta" software cannot/shouldnot usually be trusted. But
> if it allows me to boot those clients and have them connect through
> rdesktop, I think I am not going to be bothered much. No other features
> are needed at this stage (well, chipset, network and display drivers). I
> >
> >
> >
> >
> > So, for 2.2.2, just change packages/base/etc/thinstation.functions in
and when I hand applied the patch from the discussion I REPLACED the
-H $1 with -C
instead of adding -C
and as nobody reported it, I thought it was OK (as I don't use the
hostname for anything significant on my network).

I got the other part right....

Trevor B

>
> Does the -n matter or not? Also the $1 part is new, but obviously an
> argument to -H.
> Ah, we (read I) applied Francis' patch incorrectly.
>
> I got the network script OK, but NOT the functions.
> Looks like I replaced the -H with -C rather than just added -C
>
> So, for 2.2.2, just change packages/base/etc/thinstation.functions in
> the restart_dhcp function.
>

I just wanted to let you guys know I implemented these changes, and tested it out on our network. It seems to be working perfectly. I'll get a better chance to test it this week when we get our shipment of 40 new boxes. I believe i have the perfect kiosk now, and i just wanted to thank everyone who has helped me along the way.
