thisI resent having to register for some program to open a document that I need to access NOW. I did register, and still CANNOT open the document....what the hell are you? What right do you have to force me to use your program?

Re: thisWhat exactly is your problem? What type of file are you trying to open?
Also, sorry to be preachy, you had to register but you didn't have to pay, so don't look a gift horse in the mouth. -Matt On Oct 13, 2009, at 10:27 PM, SHANNON WILLIAMS wrote: > I resent having to register for some program to open a document that > I need to access NOW. Re: thisHi,
@Matt: To my experience messages like this come up, when a person has been 'buying' OOo from a dubious source. @SHANNON WILLIAMS: How did you get your copy of OpenOffice? It's free software and *nobody* is forced to use it. Best regards, Peter Matthew McGowen wrote: > What exactly is your problem? Came this utterance formulated by SHANNON WILLIAMS to my mailbox: > I resent having to register for some program... OpenOffice.org is a program that you do not "have" to register for. There is an option during the first run of the program that says "I do not want to register". Selecting this option will not stop the program from running. > ...to open a document that I need to access NOW. Evident frustration is showing through here. 1. What type of document are you trying to open? 2. What methods have you tried? 3. Can you run OpenOffice.org OK? > I did register, and still CANNOT open the document... More frustration; again, registration does not affect your ability to open documents. > what the hell are you? You have contacted a list of thousands of OpenOffice.org users. Many of them give up their free time to help other users to operate the program better and solve problems with it. > What right do you have to force me to use your program? We are Borg and we will assimilate you. No seriously, who is holding your arm up your back? Do you know how to operate a computer or are you a recent convert to computers that has been misled into believing they are easy to use, and are trying to use it with no training? Your post does not descend into outright abuse but the tone will make many, that can help you, ignore you. Worse, you may get flamed. Thousands of happy users abusing you through your email mailbox is not what you want. And the evidence is forever burned onto the internet on several different public servers now that you started it. Take a few deep breaths, and reply answering the questions i pose above and we may actually help you with your problem. -- Michael All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well - Julian of Norwich 1342 - 1416 --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: discuss-unsubscribe@... Re: thisHi all
'SHANNON WILLIAMS' is not subscribed to the list, so unless you include 'her' personal email adddress, 'she' will not see any comments. My worry is that it may be a spam attempt to harvest email addresses, or something even worse. I have tried to create an anonymous persona to reply to 'her' but when I tested my attempts to do this, they all got caught by Google Mail's spam filters, so the chances are that 'she' would not see them either. Yours is here: http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=discuss&msgNo=65024 This list is often mistakenly stumbled upon by those seeking help, or wanting to vent frustration, and it is not unusual to receive emails of this type here. Unless you have a specific reason to suspect email harvesting as a motive, I respectfully suggest you disregard that as the motive for the original email. If you are worried about harvesting, then register two email addresses. Post on one and only ever read using the other. Most email clients allow you to set the outgoing address on a per folder basis. This allows you to drop all emails coming in to the posting address. Many ISP's will let you do this at the server. -- Michael All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well - Julian of Norwich 1342 - 1416 --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: discuss-unsubscribe@... Am I just dumb that I don't get this? > Both this list and the user list have been intentionally made as easy to contact with questions as possible. This is to ease the way for newbies. Regular contributors on the list know to reply to both the list and the OP when a non-subscribed email hits the list (in my mail client i have filtered unsubscribed posts to a seperate sub-folder). In that way we become a help-desk without flooding the OPs email address with all the other emails unrelated to their question.
