Has there been update on this? I am trying to use maxQ behind the proxy which requires an authentication, but it gives an error - 407 Proxy Authentication Required. The ISA Server requires authorization to fulfill the request. Access to the Web Proxy filter is denied. (12209)

Hello,

We've just integrated MaxQ proxy in the Eclipse console of the CLIF load testing platform. This integration consists of a "New HTTP capture" wizard which first sets maxq configuration properties and then starts the capture, through an Eclipse SWT and JFace GUI.

To do this, we had to perform slight changes in classes Config and ProxyServer.

We need to support extra configuration settings and to reload these settings dynamically (when the wizard is run again and again). For this, we inherit from Config.java, but we need to change from private to protected visibility for 2 attributes and for the constructor.
We need to stop and restart maxq proxy server (with a new configuration) each time the wizard is run. For this, we add a public getter method for the ProxyServer class' srvSock attribute, and call the close() method on the ServerSocket in order to stop it. Then, we catch the thrown exception in the run() method, set a "close" boolean attribute, and terminate the thread activity.
It is interesting to get the number of captured requests. So we add a public method to get the "count" attribute of class ProxyServer.

That's all. Changes are minor and I see no reason why they could affect the normal functioning of MaxQ.
Please find attached the corresponding diff/patch file, and tell me if I may commit these changes.

I agree with Oliver.
It seems this contribution is just kind of wrapping of the existing
code, so it should not affect the "traditional modes of operation", right?
How do you plan to deliver the eg-build.xml file wrt the code base
organization... a new sub-directory? or integrate the target in an
existing build.xml?

The line 'set MAXQ=%MAXQ:\bin\=%' in maxq.bat does not correctly set the value
of environment variable MAXQ when there are any other 'bin' folders in the
folder path of maxq installation (f.e. C:\bin\maxq\). This replaces all 'bin's
leading to an error. Instead the line should be changed to something like:

set MAXQ=%MAXQ:~0,-4%

which would do its job.

Looks like you didn't enter your proxy settings in the browser correctly.

Do not use maxq for all protocols, ONLY for http (not even https).

Can you show us your browser settings?

MAXQ Problem

I downloaded and installed maxq-1.0.3 and have set the web browser with appropriate proxy as per the documentation. But when I try to record a script of my web site, I do not see any recording taking place.

Also there is a frequent error popping up “MAX-Q supports HTTP Protocol only”. My protocol is http. So can I get some assistance regarding this?

FYI, I've uploaded a binary distribution of MaxQ version 1.0.3 on the download section.
Changes only affect the Isac scenario generator (dedicated to CLIF load testing platform)

[added to the CHANGES file:]

maxq 1.0.3 - November 20, 2008 (Bruno Dillenseger)
- fixed parameters recording by Isac scenario generator (problems when a
request was interrupted before getting the response).
- Isac scenario generator port to CLIF version 2.0 (previous CLIF versions
are no longer supported).
- update of the Isac scenario generator in order to encode some characters in
an XML-friendly way (& " < >), and to escape ; and \ characters in both query
string and body parameters list.

Unfortunately, I don't know... I'm working behind a proxy and I don't know if I can configure a proxy for maxq so that I can get some external URLs...

However, if you have direct connection to the internet and some web sites work and others don't, you have probably found the problem: redirects.
First of all, MaxQ is based on HttpClient (don't know exactly which version), and HttpClient is not able to handle all kinds of redirections (see http://hc.apache.org/httpclient-3.x/redirects.html). Moreover, after a quick overview on MaxQ sources, it seems that redirects are merely disabled anyway.

www.google.com returns a 302 redirect response actually. Does anyone knows the reason why redirects are not enabled in MaxQ?

Unfortunately, I don't know... I'm working behind a proxy and I don't know if I can configure a proxy for maxq so that I can get some external URLs...

I think that Google refuses to work when it finds a non-standard browser reported. Could this be the problem? I think in those cases it would return a message explaining the problem. What return code are you getting?

I haven't amended the script in any way, shape or form. Scouts honour.

Did you edit the script using another editor? It might have replaced

Recording behind a proxy for bypassed servers

Hi,

I am a newbie in MaxQ. I installed it and i also configured the maxq config file to suit my system. i.e.

local port:8090
remote.proxy.name: my.proxy.name
remote.port.no: myportno

but the proxy has been bypassed for my application as it's a local host application.

so i am unable to record any scripts for the application as it always bypasses the proxy.
if i remove the bypass for the application, the application doesn work.

Hence can anyone of u kindly help me with what i am supposed to do.

how about a 1.0.2 release?

Hello,

I've just committed some fixes and extensions wrt to the
IsacCodeGenerator I maintain, and I would appreciate to identify a new
release with these commits now. The reason for this is that current
1.0.1 version of MaxQ does not generate correct Isac scenarios for the
current version of CLIF load testing framework.
May I proceed with creating a 1.0.2 release?

PS: I updated the CHANGES file. Does a recent committer have something
to add?

Bruno's HTTP to HTTPS solution might work, but it would be better if it was more transparent to the user.
Could we not server up HTTPS using our own key? Of course the user's browser would warn that the site's

Https recording would be really useful. The problem is that the goal of https is
to use cryptography to prevent man-in-the-middle security attacks, i.e. requests
capture and transparent replay, which is exactly what we want to do there.

A possible, simple workaround is to force http URLs is the browser: MaxQ should
transform http requests into https requests, and should transform https links
into http links in the HTML responses. This http/https translation feature
should be added as an option in MaxQ. Possibly some filters on URLs may also be
defined as an enrichment so that some http URLS be left as http.

Use with proxy servers

I’m struggling to use maxq.

Because we use a proxy server, I have moved the address of the proxy server from the proxy setting under internet options (internet explorer under windows xp) to the maxq.properties file. In their place in internet options, I have entered ‘localhost 8090’ and then started maxq against that port address.

I start recording in maxq but it does not record anything, and every so often, it raised a ‘MaxQ– proxy’ error.

In maxq.properties I’ve set the following values:

remote.proxy.host=proxy

remote.proxy.server=svr-isa-7

remote.proxy.port=8080

Could you please explain or direct me to information sources on how I should be setting maxQ up?

Running the script still relies on MaxQ classes to concisely send
GET/POST requests and check results. Of course you could write custom
Jython code to perform the upload manually, but I don't have any code on
hand that does this.

There is multipart mime support in the MaxQ code but I do not think
it works. It's been a long time since I looked at the code base.

And now for a shameless plug, PushToTest Version 5 has a multipart
mime handler and support for recording uploads using TestGen4Web.

But I am only using maxq to record, not to run the script, I am running the script from eclipse. So if I could only figure out how to manually modify the script to send the file to the server, my problems would be solved. Any tips are appreciated!

I think you are right that maxq does not support upload. I suspect that
getting file upload working, even when editing the script manually
rather than recording, would require changes to MaxQ itself (Java).

I have a webpage where there is an upload button, you click the button then select the file to upload, then click ok and the file is uploaded from your harddisk to the server. It seems that maxq can't record this, when I click upload choose the file and click ok, maxq gives an error popup (but there is no error msg on the popup). Anyone know how I can get around this, or tell me what the post statement would look like, I don't know enough about python to write the post statement myself. Thanks in advance.
