Null assignedTo, assignedCC value

Dear All,

I got null point exceptions couple of times every week and figured out that

assignedCC (attribute id 13) or assignedTo (attribute id 2) were null in the SCARAB_ISSUE_ATTRIBUTE_VALUE S as attached.

Any clue of why this happened and which files to resolve it ?

Your current opinion about release 0.22

Hi everybody,

in January, the release branch for b22 was set up. Am I the only person
working on it? What is your interest about do some help, as there are
still some things to do, e.g. some QA, and lots of documentation?

well, it says "as simple as possible" ...
And the number of lines in the documentation just reflects the fact that Scarab can be installed in a multitude of ways. BTW the default installation just takes a couple of lines...

- download
- copy the build.properties
- adapt them to your needs
- build tool
- build default database
- go

ok, i admit that Scarab is not an out of the box working horse. But it is not sooo complicated to get it started.

RE: is scarab at its end of lifetime ?

I introduced Scarab in my team of systems engineers about 6 years ago, while I was working for an aircraft manufacturer. At the time, we were gearing up for the development of a new aircraft model and I was looking for a flexible issue tracking and management system able to support the high pace of system development work we were doing.

In my search for such an application (ignoring the commercial "mammoth" solutions), I found that the overwhelming majority of so-called "issue" trackers are heavily biased towards software engineering, i.e. glorified bug trackers. I found that Scarab was the only application flexible enough to support one of the key activities in Systems Engineering: issue tracking.

Scarab has proven to be invaluable to the development work we did, from tracking issues in requirements and design data (for hardware, software, integrated systems, subsystems) all the way through to ground and flight testing. Scarab even influenced the jargon used in the company, with managers (both in the company and at major suppliers) requesting "the Scarab burn-down rate" for the month (where Scarab became the synonym for any issue that was tracked ...).

Back to your original question if there is a user community for Scarab. I have read feedback from a lot of users who use Scarab in an ITC environment. I would say that the potential user community in this kind of environment is limited. Simply because there are plenty of free bug trackers and help desk ticketing applications around that are easier to use and look sexier than Scarab. I would argue that Systems Engineering is the domain that truly needs the kind of flexibility (and level of abstraction) that Scarab offers). If you would ask me what focus continued development (functionality wise) should have, I would suggest: have a look at the needs of the Systems Engineering community.

Thanks to all contributors who have put their effort in creating the remarkable product that Scarab is. It certainly made doing my job more fun !

Dear,

Please check "Global Attribute -> User Attribute -> AssignedTo -> Base permission".
The base permission should be "Edit" in default.
Means that role without "Edit" permission is invalid to be assigned.
Reconfigure your Role's permissions or User's role to assign that user again.

Hi Johannes,

Ok, I will try this, but this is strange. After looking in the database I saw that all attribute groups have a moule_id field.

This field ist set to 0 for AttributeGroupOne and ...Two and to null for the group I added.

After updating the field to 0 my AttributeGroup comes up.

Is this a bug or a hidden feature ?

Hi Matthias,

"Global" is more like a container for some "Meta Data". It is not a
module. You cannot extend this.

(1. Clean your database. Don't use the sample data even if they seem to
be useful.
run "ant create-db -Dskip.seed.data=true -Dskip.default.data=true
-Dskip.jira.templates.data=true" for this.)
2. You may rethink your issue types and settings and do a short draft.
Changes might be a bit messy later on.
3. Create your issue types and atttributes in "Global"
4. Add a module named "Template" or something.
5. Add all your issue types from Global to this "Template"

Now you should able to create a module which inherits "Template". Your
items (issue types) from "Template" should be copied.

Global AttributeGroup

Hi,

I am new to scarab, and tried to add a AtrributeGroup to the global ticket type "Defect". I added the group and one attribute I had created called "target release".

Everything works perfect, but when I created a new module the my own attribute group never comes up when adding "Defects".

Instead I see to attribute groups called AttributeGroupOne and AttributeGroupTwo. Where do they come from ?
They are visible in any created modules, but are not global.

So my question is: How to add my own attribute group that behave like AttributeGroupOne ?

Merge in Revision 10854

Hi,

I merged the current sources from 0.22 branch back into trunk. I hope
you confirm this commit. A major bugfix.

One important note:
In 0.22 there is a new permission for role requests. Hence at least one
database update by "upgrade-0.22-add-new-permissions.sql" is necessary
before using any older database.

Hi,

I would appreciate this feature, having optional constraints (regex
patterns), for some types of attributes.

I like the second idea you had, by applying the optional regexp pattern
as an additional filed for every attribute, best.

Is this worth fixing any longer? I successfully uploaded a file with german umlauts in filename and was able to access it afterwards (using windows xp sp3). There was no fix for this, wasn't there.

	Is this worth fixing any longer? I successfully uploaded a file with german umlauts in filename and was able to access it afterwards (using windows xp sp3). There was no fix for this, wasn't there.

	I would recommend using link section here and not to enter these Urls into comments or else. One possibility I see is, that issue links have to start with whitespace or placed at start of String. E.g.:"(^\|\s)...". But then issue ids within html elements don't get parsed properly.
