timeout gone on some machines

[ http://bugs.debian.org/551430 ] Using the "c", then "set" command
reveals that timeout was never set in the first place on my desktop,
even though the same exact configuration files sets it on my laptop.

Oh, the moment one hits a button and the countdown line disappears, the
countdown variable is also removed from "set" results. So back to the
drawing board...
