Though about this more, came up with the attached render. It was easy enough to do with the new live path effects. Is this something like what you had in mind. Also of point I rearraged the offset so that the white falls above now, I feel this gives a better embed like effect

Well comparing to the effect achieved in gimp, I am unable to create depth in the little parallelograms. I am confident that someone with more experience will be able to create this.

In other news, tweaked the effect just a little (should be unnoticeable, but makes more logical sense.) Picked out Kubuntu cool colors, and tweaked the helix to fix (see render.) Also attaching updated svg.

Well, I vaguely recall that Fedora used a helix, but this is a very
different take and seems rather fresh to me.

There's a clear connection to the whole "Human" idea. The result is
aesthetically pleasing to my eyes, flowing, organic, quite well
balanced.

A bend or 3d/going-into-the-depth effect could spice things up, but at
least the later would be a little hard to accomplish and get right.

Discussion continued in the other post. Would be glad for some feedback on Helix though ;)
In other news, I figured out a way to do a crude embed-like effect in Inkscape, see attached render. I am looking for someone with more experience in Inkscape to poke around and make the filter effect better.
I am also going to go ahead and attach the svg, although its still pretty messy.

We included any size for the first round. Then we emailed everyone to get
permission, larger sizes, etc.

I think that the wiki should be used more for project pages. So if you really
want to have an ongoing discussion in which several people take part and work
together toward some design goal the wiki is the place for you.

The backgrounds are best kept in one place and currently flickr is simply the
best free alternative we have that already draws large numbers of
contributors.

This is a great thing IMO. I remember trying to upload to the wiki and
getting multiple surge protection warnings, as well as when I was
just trying to view the other submissions...

The only problem with flickr is that people without pro accounts are
limited to a non-current-desktop resolution size.. Would the desktop
selectors care about those size issues? Are they able to contact
flickr users to request larger sizes?

We agreed on selecting only on flickr and explicitly stating so on the
wiki, at least.

Quite a while before UDS, I added the statement to the wiki, informed
you and got no complaints at all.

I said we should outright reject wallpapers on the wiki to not confuse
anyone. There was no opposition and my impression was that Ivanka and
you, Kenneth, were OK with that, but it wasn't noted in the Gobby doc.
So there, we only have: "Be explicit about the fact that submissions on
the wiki will not be included", as seen on:

My main concern here is that one path is chosen and followed through the
whole cycle, so negative surprises are avoided.

Well, you can subscribe to a page (or all pages below a page) and
receive notifications on changes. Not exactly comfortable compared to a
list.

(However, there ate no notifications on adding/deleting attachments.)

I think we need to sum up what came out of the UDS discussion and post it
clearly to this list so that everyone understands. I'll do that later today or

I support this for two reasons, setting up and maintaining a wiki page, has always seemed to be rather tedious for the artist as well as the commenter/critiquer.
As an example: the artist has to upload both the file, and the preview of that file, to make a clickable preview, that does not stretch the page, and quite often the preview really does the wallpaper no justice. For the commenter, I feel that there is no way to know when some has responded to the critique/question, nevermind the trouble leaving some contact info.
I am a huge noob at wiki editing, so if any of that is wrong please set me right.

All these problems are avoided in the mailing list, artist can attach svgs, and other files directly. Updates are automatically brought up to be reviewed/mocked. Older files are also kept in the attachments.The commenters can remain active in the discussion, and their critique is properly attributed. Separate discussions and ideas (like this one) can pinch off in a new thread.

The other/other viable solution would be to use the Ubuntu forums art subforum, to host the files, with the discussion happening here.

Note that this time, I'm not available to set up and keep an eye on a
possible Backgrounds section.

Embroider Ubuntu logo with Bernina

For a present (and to promote Ubuntu), I want to embroider the Ubuntu logo to a towel.
For Bernina, it costs over $100 to convert a jpg/png to the special format called ART that can be used on Bernina machines.
Has anyone already converted the Ubuntu logo to this ART format? An other format that may be useful is PES.

In the Ubuntu-Shop I in the past bought the "Ubuntu Fleece Jacket". There the Ubuntu logo is perfectly embroidered.

I don't know how to make debs, so it's just a drop-in filesystem tree.

I've been having a bit of a problem with transitions, they almost always happen about 20 minutes before the intended time. I think ideally it should fade for a few minutes between pictures, but I don't know how to set that (I though it was the <duration> tag, but strage things happened when I gave it time values).

Of course. No reason to rule out any medium. So you could put on your
white catsuit and draw with your whole body on banana-paper, if you

Three things that occur to me as I read the wiki.

For photos, is there a min/ max specification on the mp/resolution?
Does abstract cover things done in inkscape/gimp and so on? (It should, since I remember one of my fav walls, from the kde contest was EOS by vlad)
Are you looking to focus on different color palletes? say for example 4 red-yellow, 4-blue to violet, 4 green- to yellow?

The flickr group is always open for submissions:

For each release, we will have a start and end date to define the set of
pictures we look at (no picture shall be considered for more than 1
release).

The start date for one release will be the end date + 1 of the previous
release.

Current plan is to have the end date set 3 months before release day,
with a first package in Beta 1.

Having the motive out-of-focus is the cause. The effect: the point of
interest is depicted blurry, not sharp.

Usually the whole photo appears blurry (having something random sharp
while everything else is blurry is even worse).

Cases where it is clearly wanted to have the motive blurred are excluded
from this criticism, of course. I don't recall such a composition,
though.

the motive out-of-focus[...]" mean?

Hi all,

I've just pushed the extra wallpapers from the flickr contest to my ppa. I'll
announce it tomorrow, going to bed soon, just thought you might like to check
it out and test the installation beforehand.
