Using KMyMoney 0.9.3-CVS (Using KDE 3.5.10) in Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope

I'm using KMyMoney with no problems. I have my checking account set up
so I can update account online. I was importing OFX file before but
have closed that account.

I would like to update to KMyMoney 1 but when I do get problems with
the program crashing.

Could someone please write update instructions. I have updated a couple
of time with the same results. I'm obviously doing something wrong.

I have uninstalled KMyMoney in Synaptic Package Manager. Last time, I
deleted all the folders I could find. What ever I do, the 'unmap
account' has showed, but not the update. If I unmap, I have not been
able to map. I have not been able to undate, & I have not been able to
import files. On any of those, the program has shut down.

I don't think I tried updating without uninstalling older version. I
don't think it would let me, but I don't remember for sure.

I have tried on two different systems, pretty much set up the same.

Probably something stupid that I'm doing as I was a windows tech since
windows came out ;> (so glad to be a carpenter now, even if not
working) so please try to put in all steps.

Thank you.

Hello Debbi,
you seem to be using some kind of plugin for online banking.
Do you remember how you installed those?
Because they have to be upgraded as well when you upgrade KMM.

And don't worry, there are lots of people here who migrated from Windows and are not technical, just regular users. We will get you there.

Alvaro

On the version I am using, I installed the adbanking plugin and the ofx
file inport plugin. I didn't need the adbanking.

When I installed versuib 1, I installed all the plugins lsted, think it
was one file in synaptic package... If I recall, there were three
options to select under plugins in KMyMoney.

I'm not worried about not being technical. I'm worried about being too
technical and doing something extra causing the problem. Something I'd
do automatically or something without thinking about it. After 20 years
it all became pretty automatic. Thank god the recession made it so I
needed a BA to do what I'd been doing with 2 AAs and I got out before it
bored me to death.

I know I had selected KMyMoney, KMM common, & KMM plugins. I think they
were all the same versions. They do not show in Synaptic Package
Manager when I have an older version installed.

I guess I can't get step by step instructions. I'll have to ask
individual questions which I will only think of when I am going thru
the process so I'll continue to live with what I have.

Do I remove or completely remove kmymoney2 20090811cvs-0ubunbtu1-jaunty1
& kmymoney2-common 20090811cvs-0ubunbtu1-jaunty1 before I install
version 1? It does not show plugins installed in Synaptic Package
Manager. Should there be a way that I can update without uninstallng
the older version?

Since the problems I am having are with the account update, should I
unmap my account(s) before I update?

Uninstall all kmm packages. There was a problem with the PPA at one point where it wouldn't upgrade to the new version unless you uninstalled the packages first. Don't do anything with your file at this point, that shouldn't be affected.
In fact, there haven't been changes to the file format from the version you have now.

Alvaro

Hi Debbi

(I'd just finished typing this when your latest post came in and I see
your problem seems solved now, but what the hell, here it is anyway!.)

There are step-by-step instructions for installing the latest version
from CVS.  You may not have tried this before, and I was a bit
apprehensive when I first started, but I now find it very straight
forward.  I've just copied the steps onto a crib sheet and do copy/paste
from there each time.  You won't get updates via your distro, but the
web-site gives the steps for updating.  Provided you have the
dependancies it should be OK, and if you've compiled previously, that
shouldn't be a problem, once CVS is installed.  Just make sure not to
miss a step.

Have a look at http://kmymoney2.sourceforge.net/index-install.html .
While it refers to bleeding edge, generally it is very reliable.  Ignore
the reference to the rel-0-8-branch kmymoney2 branch.

Just to avoid possible confusion, here are the steps I take:

Move into a directory where you wish to store the kmymoney source
directory (e.g. cd ~/KMM) and type the following:

cvs
-d:pserver:anonymous@...:/cvsroot/kmymoney2
login   [that should all be on one line]

The password is empty, so just hit RETURN if asked for the password.

After anonymously logging in type:

cvs -z8
-d:pserver:anonymous@...:/cvsroot/kmymoney2 co
kmymoney2   [that should all be on one line]

After the initial checkout of the sources, you can change into the
kmymoney2 directory and execute cvs commands without the -d option. For
example:

cd kmymoney2    [which will be ~/KMM/kmymoney2]
cvs update

[How to build the sources from CVS]

To build the sources from CVS you must first build the configure
program. To do this type:

make -f Makefile.dist [in the top kmymoney directory [kmymoney2]. The
configure program is now built and you can build as normal by typing:

./configure --enable-debug=full --enable-ofxbanking --enable-ofxplugin
make
su
make install
exit

and that should be it.

all done, thank you (Re: update instructions)

Thank you.

I think my previous problem was more related to what to do with the old
version before updating. I thought the problem was in something I was
or was not doing, but since it's been fixed, I'm not sure where the
problem was.

I was looking for update instructions rather than install instructions,
but all ok.

I appreciate everyone's efforts.
