v11 UpdateHi Aparajita,
It's been a little over a month since the last v11 message. Would you mind giving the list an update on how the work is going? Any major hang-ups or trouble points? Any estimates on a beta? We're all chomping at the bit to do some beta testing - thanks! Best Regards - Clayton Clayton L. Re: v11 Update> Would you
> mind giving the list an update on how the work is going? Since you ask... I am killing myself to get this thing done -- 7 days a week, 6-10 hours a day. It's bankrupting me. I have spent 6 months working on it with no significant income. As a result I had to borrow a ton of money just to keep me going. If it weren't for the kindness of one client who has partially funded development, I would have burned through the loan as well. When will it be done? I wish I knew. The end is in sight, but I have no idea how long it will take to get there, and after so many inaccurate predictions about the release date, I will not make any more. The pricing and support changes I made last year will be reverted -- it was an experiment that failed. I will go back to a $700 first year cost, $130 per-license renewals, and support via the mailing list. I haven't decided on the upgrade cost yet, but it will be significantly more than the $130 renewal cost. Re: v11 UpdateHi Aparajita,
be assured you have my full support for this move! I already told my clients that the upgrade cost will be substantial and they did not so much as flinch, to them what you call high upgrade costs are mere peanuts. I am pret ysure you will get some flak on the nug for this move, but 99.5% of those complaining are people who would not ever have considered buying a4d in the furst place, but sme people cannot let an oportunity for complains pass by. All the best from us and I for my part will go on promoting a4d wherever I can. Oh, I also have 2 potential sales of my application WITH the web interface for late july. They did not yet sign but we have an LOI. I know what that is worth when push comes to shove, but as you know I am an undeterrable optimistic! I have a lot of sympathy for this situation having worked on a few vertical market projects - it's not much fun and can be a lot of stress. I sincerely hope you get the appropriate return for your labours and I will also continue to promote the product where I can. I do not expect any complaints about the licensing decisions from my customers. Re: v11 UpdateI agree about the licensing.
Considering the benefit, the cost of A4D has ALWAYS been straightforward to justify. Re: v11 UpdateThe new licensing plan sounds fine, Aparajita.
Also, thank you for sending out the updates - even when you don't have exact dates, it does wonders for morale to see that there is progress being made, and that an end is in sight. > I haven't been sitting around and twiddling my thumbs! Yeah, yeah, yeah. C'mon, admit it. You've been loafing around, feet up on the sofa, drinking beer and watching reruns of Gilligan's Island while you have the maid rake up those huge piles of renewal license checks piled up in the front hallway that the mailman drops off every day in a wheelbarrow... NOT! Thank you again for all your hard work! You've got everybody rooting for you for a successful rollout of the new version. Even though you're under a ton of stress and worry trying to get this out the door, at least stop to reflect on the fact that you have a _very_ successful product that people use and depend on. What you do _is_ important. It's a shame not everybody using 4D uses your product--but then the same can be said for 4D itself. Good luck, and remember to take a break every now and then! You deserve it! (Then back to work! :-) Cheers!
