virago1100 air induction system!

hi, i have a virago 1100 import and it has a air induction system on it, which i wont to remove if possible, it is not connected to the exhaust.
the reason why is that i wish to personalize it.
I wish to know if i can take the air induction system off or will it bugger up the running of the engine.
Sorry if i sound stupid but have never done something like this before so needed all the help i can get!
I would like to change the clocks on it too but unsure what to have. Just want to reduce what is on the bike.
