There are forums and mailing lists at https://sourceforge.net/projects/jtidy/support
But the old developers stopped responding a long time ago, I don't know if any of them will give you a reply.
However, have you checked all the jtidy branches and tags in svn? Some of them seem to go pretty far back, e.g. jtidyr7. Even a cvs repository still exists at :pserver:anonymous@jtidy.cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/jtidy

I see. I had found through Google the original release post, which was
in this mailing list, which was why I posted here.

I require the old version because the oldest version in svn (and any
version after it) fixes some bug which the application I am charged with
updating relies on. It is an unfortunate situation, but using the old
version works for our purposes and it would take more time to change our
application than to use the old version.

I have the binaries for the old version, but would like to make some
changes to them and recompile it. Where should I be posting for JTidy
questions then?

Hi, this mailing list is for Tidy, not JTidy.
I am the current JTidy maintainer, but I joined the project recently, I don't know where you can find such an old version. Why do you need it anyway?

Hello all;

I am looking for an older release of JTidy, specifically the 13th
January 2000 version, which predates the current svn repository on
sourceforge. I have spent a long time searching the internet with no
luck, and now am hoping that one of you may have the source code for
that version.

Any help in locating the files would be greatly appreciated :)

Hi, this mailing list is for Tidy, not JTidy. However, if you get an answer about how to do this with Tidy, I can help you do it with JTidy.
I don't know how to do it with Tidy though. Also you haven't explained how you expect Tidy to deal with the <o> tag. Should it remove it? Keep the content? Replace the tag with another tag?
Anyway, maybe somebody else can help, or confirm if it's possible or not.

Hi,

The tests are really regression tests: run them and get the output.
Modify the code in a different tree. Run the tests again, make sure
they succeed and check that their output is unchanged.
For instance, you can extract tidy as it was in 2005, run the tests
and compare their output with the current one.
The output of the tests goes in "test/tmp". "test/output" looks indeed unused.

New Python bindings for HTML Tidy

PyTidyLib is a new Python wrapper for HTML Tidy with cross-platform
support. I was wondering if it could be linked from the
tidy.sourceforge.net sidebar (but didn't see an address for the web-
site maintainer).

The Python package linked on the HTML Tidy page now, uTidyLib, has
some open bugs on Sourceforge and hasn't been updated since 2004, so I
wrote a new one. Compared to uTidyLib, PyTidyLib fixes a memory leak,
increases speed and adds support for OS X, Windows, 64-bit platforms,
and unicode strings. It also supports threadsafe re-use of document
objects for some increased speed if you're tidying many documents in a
row.

64-bit Windows support required a DLL from these guys, which might
also be useful to have linked on the Tidy site:

I already replied privately.
HTML 3.2 had <a name="xx">.
HTML 4 added <any-element id="xx">,
and the recommended maximise-your-interoperability practice
for <a> is to copy <a name="xx" id="xx">.
(If an <a> has both name= and id= they must have the same
value, but having both at the same time is intended.)
Tidy wants to help copy the name= to name= AND id=
BUT an id= attribute value must start with a letter.
<a name="01" id="01"> would not be legal.
So Tidy won't do it. Changing to <a name="N01"> would
make Tidy happy.

Forcing OMITTAG NO in HTML

I'm using Tidy to batch validate a website locally (via Selenium RC).
The pages are using the HTML 4.01 Transitional doctype in which end
tags are optional for many elements. However, for my purposes, a
missing end tag will usually signal a coding error in the HTML
template and I would like Tidy to warn about it despite the fact it's
valid HTML. Is there a way to do this other than writing a custom DTD
with OMITTAG set to NO? If not, how do I supply a custom DTD to Tidy
(running as a C library I think) and are there any disadvantages to
this approach?
