Services Computing is a new cross-discipline that covers the science and technology needed to bridge the gap between business services and IT/telecommunication services. The goal of services computing is to develop new computing technology and thereby enable more advanced IT/telecommunication services to support business services more efficiently and effectively. IEEE APSCC 2009 is an important forum for researchers and industry practitioners to exchange information regarding advancements in the state of art and practice of IT/telecommunication-driven business services and application services, as well as to identify emerging research topics and define the future directions of Services Computing.

We solicit proposals for tutorials for presentation at the IEEE APSCC 2009 conference. Proposals must provide an in-depth survey of the chosen topic with the option of describing a particular piece of work in detail. A meaningful summary of open issues in the topic is highly recommended. The main research topics of the IEEE APSCC 2009 conference include, but are not limited to:

* Business Process Integration and Management;
* Cloud/Utility/Web Computing;
* Foundations of Services Computing;
* Mobile/Ubiquitous/Pervasive Computing;
* Service-centric Computing Models; and
* Telecommunication Services.

Proposals must be no more than five (5) pages, using an 11 pt or larger font for the body of the text of the proposal, and must include enough details to provide a sense of both the scope of material to be covered and the depth to which it will be covered. Tutorial proposals should include the following elements:

* Title of the tutorial;
* Tutorial Length (typically 3 or 5 hours);
* A description of the tutorial topic(s);
* Organization of the tutorial;
* A description of how the tutorial will contribute to the field of services computing;
* Intended audience and any prerequisite knowledge for attendees; and
* Details about the speaker(s) including full name, affiliation, mailing address, e-mail address, and a short biography.

The 4th International Conference for Internet Technology and Secured Transactions (ICITST-2009) is co-sponsored
by IEEE UK/RI Section. The purpose of these workshops is to provide a platform for presenting novel ideas in a
less formal and possibly more focused way than the conferences themselves. It offers a good opportunity for young
researchers to present their work and to obtain feedback from an interested community. The format of each workshop
is to be determined by the organisers, but it is expected that they contain ample time for general discussion.
The preference is for one day workshops, but other schedules will also be considered.

The ICITST-2009 encourages you to submit workshop proposals. Workshop duration can be one day or one and half day.
All the accepted papers will be included in the conference proceedings. You can consider organising a workshop that
is related to ICITST-2009 topics.

Your workshop proposals will be reviewed by the Steering Committees and all the accepted papers will appear
in the proceedings published by IEEE and fully indexed by IEEE Xplore and DBLP.

Important Dates

Workshop Proposal Submission: April 30, 2009
Notification of Workshop Acceptance: May 15, 2009

The proposal must include:

1. The name of the workshop.
2. A statement of goals for the workshop.
3. The names and addresses of the organisers.
4. The names of potential participants, such as program committee members.
5. A description of the plans for call for participation (e.g., call for papers).
6. The expected number of attendees and the planned length of the workshop.
7. The topic of the workshop should be relevant to the main conference and details of any previous workshops.
8. The URL of the workshop web site.

The workshop paper submission and author notification due dates are at the discretion of the workshop organisers
but not later than June 31, 2009 in order to be included in the main conference proceedings.For all workshop
organizers, if the workshop receives more than 20 valid submissions or accepts more than 10 quality papers at
IEEE ICITST- 2009, the organisers will receive one free registration and IEEE ICITST-2009 outstanding service
certificate.

The next astronauts to work on the moon will likely live in larger
habitats and drive sporty new rovers capable of
two-week treks, NASA officials said Thursday.

Rather than assembling a lunar outpost over time from a multitude of
small, separately launched modules, NASA is now hoping
to land up to three large habitats on fewer flights to build a beachhead
on the moon, the space agency said.

Doug Cooke, NASA's deputy associate administrator for exploration
systems, said that the space agency's revised lunar plan
calls for the launching of larger habitats to the moon on unmanned cargo
flights.

rewards faster than if they had to haul smaller habitat
sections and hardware to the moon on each flight, then combine them into
a larger base to support long-duration expeditions.

international participation early," Cooke told reporters in a
teleconference. "All of these objectives we want to address as early
in the flights as we possibly can by getting the outpost up and running
quickly."

Hi all,

I just subscribed to this list and wanted to introduce myself before posting. I'm Rob and coding and design is my hobby. So do nothing fancy but think I can learn a lot from all posts coming by in this W3C mailinglist.

I have a portal called Indelv.com (http://www.indelv.com/) and post some news on standards just to keep track of what is happening in the field. I know the site is not fully standardized, but I am working on it when I have free time.

So if you have some cool news or found a nice article, send me a note, I will repost some of it on Indelv, so I will not loose track of it. Hope I see nice tips passing by on this mailing list and in the future I might be a bit better and can even assist with answers.

Services discovery and composition are among the key issues that decide the success of Web services technology. This issue of the International Journal of Web Services Research (JWSR) highlights the theme of a special issue: “Web Services Discovery and Composition.” Guest Editors M. Brian Blake, William K. Cheung, Andreas Wombacher, and Kwok Ching Tsui organized four articles in this special issue focused primarily on various approaches on services discovery and composition. In the fifth paper, “A Dynamic Two-Phase Commit Protocol for Adaptive Composite Services,” Weihai Yu and Calton Pu propose enhancement to traditional two-phase commit protocol to serve Web services-based applications.

As the emergence of service-oriented architecture provides a major boost for e-commerce agility, the number of available Web services is rapidly increasing. However, when there are a large number of Web services available and no single Web service satisfies the given request, one has to “compose” multiple Web services to fulfill the goal. This article presents an AI planning-based Web service composition algorithm named Web Services Planner (WSPR). The efficiency and effectiveness of WSPR is evaluated using two publicly available test setsEEE05 and ICEBE05. In addition to analyzing the two test sets, the authors also suggest several improvements for benchmarking Web service composition.

“Web Service Discovery and Composition for Virtual Enterprises”

One main characteristic of virtual enterprises are short-term collaborations between business partners to provide efficient and individualized services to customers. This article describes the MOVE project, which targets a methodology and software framework to support such flexible collaborations based on process oriented design and communication by Web services. MOVE’s framework supports the graphical design and verification of business processes, the execution and supervision of processes in transaction-oriented environments, and the dynamic composition and optimization of processes. The composition of processes from Web services is implemented with methods from AI-planning. The authors apply answer set programming (ASP) and map Web service descriptions and customer requests into the input language of the ASP software DLV. The conclusion demonstrates the performance of the program provides implementation details, and shares thoughtful insights.

“BITS: A Binary Tree Based Web Service Composition System”

In current service-oriented applications, typically each individual Web service cannot satisfy users’ requests for Web services, but the functionalities of several Web services may be integrated to accomplish the requested task. The article introduces BITS, a Web service composition system. BITS is implemented based on a binary tree which is used to organize Web services. In this system, some search strategies and optimization techniques are developed for efficient service discovery and service composition. Extensive experiments are conducted for performance study, and the results show the efficiency and effectiveness of the methods adopted in BITS.

“A Flexible Directory Query Language for the Efficient Processing of Service Composition Queries”

Service composition is a major challenge in an open environment populated by large numbers of heterogeneous services. In such a setting, the efficient interaction of directory-based service discovery with service composition engines is crucial. This article presents a Java-based directory that offers special functionality enabling effective service composition. In order to optimize the interaction of the directory with different service composition algorithms exploiting application-specific heuristics, the directory supports user-defined selection and ranking functions written in a declarative query language. Inside the directory queries are transformed and compiled to JVM bytecode which is dynamically linked into the directory. The compiled query enables a best-first search of matching directory entries, efficiently pruning the search space.

“A Dynamic Two-Phase Commit Protocol for Adaptive Composite Services”

Next-generation applications based on Web services impose additional requirements on the use of coordination protocols with various optimizations, such as the two-phase commit protocol (2PC). This article analyzes the well-known 2PC optimizations “presumed commit” and “presumed abort,” and presents an improved 2PC that is suitable for Web-service-based applications. More specifically, the protocol allows every individual service provider to dynamically choose the most appropriate presumption for any distributed transaction. This new capability is especially useful when a composite Web service is integrating component services that make different presumptions in their commit protocols. The protocol does not introduce extra overhead to the previous 2PC variants in terms of number of messages and log records, and it is easy to understand and realize. The simulation shows that the choice of appropriate presumption has significant influence on system performance, and that in some heterogeneous settings, combining different presumptions in individual transactions outperforms adopting only one single presumption.

“Supporting Predictable Service Provision in MANETs Via Context-Aware Session Management”

The increasing ubiquity of wireless mobile devices is promoting unprecedented levels of electronic collaboration among devices interoperating to achieve a common goal. Issues related to host interoperability are addressed partially by the principles of the service-oriented computing paradigm. However, certain technical concerns relating to predictable interactions among hosts in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) have not yet received much attention. This article introduces “follow-me sessions,” where interactions occur between a client and a service, rather than a specific service provider. A client, thus, may exploit several service providers during the course of its interaction with a given service. This redundancy mitigates the effects of mobility-induced disconnections, thereby facilitating reliable communication. This paper covers the architecture and implementation of a middleware that supports follow-me sessions and shows how this middleware mitigates issues related to proxy-based service-oriented architectures in mobile ad hoc networks.

“An Adaptive Access Control Model for Web Services”

This paper presents an innovative access control model, referred to as Web service Access Control Version 1 (Ws-AC1), specifically tailored to Web services. The most distinguishing features of this model are the flexible granularity in protection objects and negotiation capabilities. Formal definitions underlying the model and the relevant algorithms, such as the access control algorithm are presented. An encoding of the model in the Web Services Description Language (WSDL) standard for which a required extension is developed to support Ws-AC1 is also presented.

“Facilitating the Specification of Semantic Web Services Using Model-Driven Development”

The semantic Web promises automated invocation, discovery, and composition of Web services by enhancing services with semantic descriptions. An upper ontology for Web services called OWL-S has been created to provide a mechanism for describing service semantics in a standard, well-defined manner. Unfortunately, the learning curve for semantic-rich description languages such as OWL-S can be steep, especially given the current state of tool support for the language. This paper describes a suite of automated software tools the authors developed to facilitate the construction of OWL-S specifications. This paper describes the tools and demonstrates how the use of lightweight interactive tools facilitates creation of OWL-S specifications.

“Auction-Based Pricing Model for Web Service Providers”

Applying auctions to Web services selection and invocation calls for examination due to the unique features of Web services, such as interoperable machine-to-machine interactions and re-enterable bargaining services. In this paper, the authors propose a formal model for Web services-based auctions. Examining a one-sided sealed auction type, they prove mathematically that service requestors’ risk preferences could lead to pricing strategies with a higher profit for service providers. A basic service requestor risk preference elicitation algorithm and a historical data-based service requestor risk preference prediction model are proposed.

“A Service-Oriented Composition Framework with QoS Management”

Quality of Services (QoS) management in compositions of services requires careful consideration of QoS characteristics of the services and effective QoS management in their execution. This paper describes an approach to implementation of QoS management in compositions of Web services in the context of Computational Quality Attributes and Service Level Agreements. Building on prior research work of others in the use of Message Detail Records, this paper integrates the results from several research threads to propose a QoS Management Architecture to support dynamic processing of service- and flow-level quality attributes to support QoS requests and analyses in Web-service-oriented architectures. The study of QoS management in a Web service composition framework was motivated by the evolution of the composition framework for a toolkit for integration and experimentation of distributed system applications. A message tracking model is proposed for supporting QoS end-to-end management by applying the Computational Quality Attribute (CQA) concepts of Flow-Service-Quality engineering. Quality attributes are defined, computed and acted upon as dynamic characteristics of systems, with values constantly changing in operation. “Search Strategies for Automatic Web Service Composition”

This paper investigates architectural properties required for supporting automatic service composition. First, composable service architecture will be described, based on modeling Web Services as abstract machines supported by formally defined composition operators. Based on the proposed infrastructure, the authors give several options for achieving automatic service composition by treating it as a search problem. Namely, basic heuristic, probabilistic, learning-based, decomposition and bidirectional automatic composition mechanisms will be presented and compared. Finally, this article discusses the impact and outlook for automatic composition.

“XWRAPComposer: A Multi-Page Data Extraction Service”

The authors of this paper present a service-oriented architecture and a set of techniques for developing wrapper code generators, including the methodology of designing an effective wrapper program construction facility and a concrete implementation, called XWRAPComposer. This wrapper generation framework has two unique design goals. First, the authors explicitly separate tasks of building wrappers that are specific to a Web service from the tasks that are repetitive for any service. Second, inductive learning algorithms that derive information flow and data extraction patterns by reasoning about sample pages or sample specifications are used. More importantly, the authors design a declarative rule-based script language for multi-page information extraction, encouraging a clean separation of the information extraction semantics from the information flow control and execution logic of wrapper programs.

PAPER THREE:

“An Ontology-Based Content Model for Intelligent Web Content Access Services”

Intelligent Web content access is a fundamental Web service, representing the first step toward semantic Web services. A lack of adequate and sufficient interpretation for content in current methods impedes access to content. This study regards Web content as any content described and published in the format of a markup language such as HTML or XML. In this paper, the authors present the Content Model, combining subjective information from the content itself with objective information from people’s perceptions of this content, providing an integrated interpretation of a content item. During accessing, a search engine examines the description of a content item, as found in the Content Model, to find matching files. An ontology-based Content Model is developed and applied to the Web environment to enhance Web content accessibility. Results of this study demonstrate that the proposed Content Model provides essential content descriptions for locating, accessing, and interacting with content providers.

“Self-Reconfiguration of Service-Based System for Service Level Agreements and Resource Optimization”

In this paper, the authors propose an autonomic computing approach to the problem of reconfiguration, that is, enabling the service-based system to configure itself by means of a loop of monitoring, analyzing, planning and executing. This article begins by formalizing the definition of reconfiguration. Then, a description is given on how to implement the autonomic computing mechanisms for reconfiguring service-based systems to satisfy Service Level Agreements with minimal resource consumption. The approach is demonstrated on a resilient service provisioning environment. Finally, the preliminary experiments are evaluated to determine the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

PAPER FIVE:

“UML-Based Support for Designing and Validating Web Service Descriptions”

WSDL descriptions, often characterized as IDLs for Web services, are a key for Web service interoperability. Therefore, special care should be taken in designing WSDL descriptions. In this paper, the authors present an approach that provides UML-based support to design and validate WSDL descriptions. To promote Web service interoperability, WS-I organization provides a Basic Profile that defines clarifications, refinements, interpretations, and amplifications of Web service specifications, including WSDL. The article suggests UML-based profiles to define structural rules of WSDL documents as well as Basic Profile recommendations for WSDL descriptions. These profiles can be used to guide the user in designing correct and Basic-Profile-compliant WSDL descriptions and to check the validity of existing WSDL descriptions. A method and tools for such validity checking is proposed, and the applicability of the approach with case studies.

Purpose / History:

This set of joint conferences is the largest annual gathering of
researchers in computer science, computer engineering and
applied computing. There will be a number of workshops, tutorials,
and discussion sessions. The motivation is to assemble a spectrum
of affiliated research conferences into a coordinated research
meeting held in a common place at a common time. The main goal is
to provide a forum for exchange of ideas in a number of research
areas that interact. The model used to form these annual
conferences facilitates communication among researchers in different
fields of computer science, computer engineering and applied
computing. Both inward research (core areas of computer science
and engineering) and outward research (multi-disciplinary,
inter-disciplinary, and applications) will be covered during the
conferences.

Submission of Papers:

Prospective authors are invited to submit their draft paper (about
5 to 8 pages - single space, font size of 10 to 12) to
H. R. Arabnia by March 7, 2006. email submissions in MS document
or PDF formats are preferable (Fax or postal submissions are also
fine.) All reasonable typesetting formats are acceptable (later,
the authors of accepted papers will be asked to follow a
particular typesetting format to prepare their papers for
publication.)

The length of the Camera-Ready papers (if accepted) will be limited
to 7 (IEEE style) pages. Papers must not have been previously
published or currently submitted for publication elsewhere. The
first page of the draft paper should include: title of the paper,
name, affiliation, postal address, email address, telephone number,
and Fax number for each author. The first page should also include
the name of the author who will be presenting the paper (if accepted)
and a maximum of 5 keywords. Also, the name of the conference that
the paper is being submitted to must be mentioned on the first page.

Papers will be evaluated for originality, significance, clarity, and
soundness. Each paper will be refereed by two researchers in field.

Location of Conferences:

The conferences will be held in the Monte Carlo Resort hotel,
Las Vegas, Nevada, USA (with any overflows at other near-by hotels).
The Monte Carlo Resort is a mega hotel with excellent conference
facilities and over 3,000 rooms. The hotel is minutes from the
airport with 24-hour shuttle service to and from the airport.
This hotel has many recreational attractions, including: waterfalls,
spa, pools and kiddie pools, sunning decks, Easy River water ride,
wave pool with cascades, lighted tennis courts, health spa (with
workout equipment, whirlpool, sauna, ...), arcade virtual reality
game rooms, nightly shows, snack bars, a number of restaurants,
shopping area, bars, ... Many of these attractions are open 24
hours a day and most are suitable for families and children. The
negotiated room rate for conference attendees is very reasonable.
The hotel is within walking distance from most other attractions
(major shopping areas, recreational destinations, fine dining,
street shows, ...)

Business Services Networks (BSN's) are business networks, that is, a
group of cooperative organizations either within an enterprise or
between different enterprises, which are based on services. In that
context, a service represents a set of encapsulated IT components
implementing specific business functions. The service interface is
self-describing in order to publish, discover and dynamically bind
services using an underlying Service Oriented Architecture (SOA),
most often implemented using Web Services standards. However, this
flexibility with regard to loose-coupling and the interoperability
between cooperative organizations is being applied in current
projects, especially in industrial projects.

This workshop concentrates on all facets of BSN's and the
architecture of service-oriented solutions supporting inter-
enterprise collaboration, throughout the entire collaboration life-
cycle. This includes the consideration of business strategies for
the establishment of a BSN with cooperative organizations from
different SOA environments and maturity, as well as the design of
such cooperation and collaboration starting with the requirements
until the final instantiation of the collaboration by discovering,
composing, deploying, and invoking services. Based on the composed
BSN, the cooperation and collaboration brings new research from the
perspectives of business (e.g. provisioning) and technical (e.g.
transactions), e.g. monitoring and auditing in a network of
organizations.

We invite papers addressing business and technical issues of BSN's
from various perspectives, including development strategies of new
BSNs, design of BSNs, as well as management and execution. We

PURPOSE / HISTORY:

This set of joint conferences is the largest annual
gathering of researchers in computer science, computer
engineering and applied computing. Many of the 28 joint
conferences in WORLDCOMP are the premier conferences for
presentation of advances in their respective fields.

The motivation is to assemble a spectrum of affiliated
research conferences into a coordinated research meeting
held in a common place at a common time. The main goal
is to provide a forum for exchange of ideas in a number
of research areas that interact. The model used to form
these annual conferences facilitates communication among
researchers in different fields of computer science,
computer engineering and applied computing. Both inward
research (core areas of computer science and engineering)
and outward research (multi-disciplinary, inter-disciplinary,
and applications) will be covered during the conferences.

SUBMISSION OF PAPERS:

Prospective authors are invited to submit their draft
paper (about 5 to 8 pages - single space, font size of 10
to 12) to H. R. Arabnia by Feb. 20, 2006. E-mail submissions
in MS document or PDF formats are preferable (Fax or postal
submissions are also fine.) All reasonable typesetting
formats are acceptable (later, the authors of accepted
papers will be asked to follow a particular typesetting
format to prepare their papers for publication.)

The length of the Camera-Ready papers (if accepted) will
be limited to 7 (IEEE style) pages. Papers must not have
been previously published or currently submitted for

Business Services Networks (BSN's) are business networks, that is, a
group of cooperative organizations either within an enterprise or
between different enterprises, which are based on services. In that
context, a service represents a set of encapsulated IT components
implementing specific business functions. The service interface is
self-describing in order to publish, discover and dynamically bind
services using an underlying Service Oriented Architecture (SOA),
most often implemented using Web Services standards. However, this
flexibility with regard to loose-coupling and the interoperability
between cooperative organizations is being applied in current
projects, especially in industrial projects.

This workshop concentrates on all facets of BSN's and the
architecture of service-oriented solutions supporting inter-
enterprise collaboration, throughout the entire collaboration life-
cycle. This includes the consideration of business strategies for
the establishment of a BSN with cooperative organizations from
different SOA environments and maturity, as well as the design of
such cooperation and collaboration starting with the requirements
until the final instantiation of the collaboration by discovering,
composing, deploying, and invoking services. Based on the composed
BSN, the cooperation and collaboration brings new research from the
perspectives of business (e.g. provisioning) and technical (e.g.
transactions), e.g. monitoring and auditing in a network of
organizations.

We invite papers addressing business and technical issues of BSN's
from various perspectives, including development strategies of new
BSNs, design of BSNs, as well as management and execution. We

PURPOSE / HISTORY:

This set of joint conferences is the largest annual
gathering of researchers in computer science, computer
engineering and applied computing. Many of the 28 joint
conferences in WORLDCOMP are the premier conferences for
presentation of advances in their respective fields.

The motivation is to assemble a spectrum of affiliated
research conferences into a coordinated research meeting
held in a common place at a common time. The main goal
is to provide a forum for exchange of ideas in a number
of research areas that interact. The model used to form
these annual conferences facilitates communication among
researchers in different fields of computer science,
computer engineering and applied computing. Both inward
research (core areas of computer science and engineering)
and outward research (multi-disciplinary, Inter-disciplinary,
and applications) will be covered during the conferences.

PROPOSAL FOR ORGANIZING TECHNICAL SESSIONS:

Each technical session will have at least 6 paper
presentations (from different authors). The session
chairs will be responsible for all aspects of their
sessions; including, soliciting papers, reviewing,
selecting, ... The names of session chairs will appear
as Associate Editors in the conference proceedings and
on the cover of the books.

Proposals to organize technical sessions should include
the following information: name and address (+ E-mail)
of proposer, title of session, a 100-word description of
the topic of the session, the name of the conference the
session is submitted for consideration, and a short
description on how the session will be advertised (in
most cases, session proposers solicit papers from
colleagues and researchers whose work is known to the
session proposer). Mail your proposal to H. R. Arabnia
(address is given above); E-mail submissions are preferred.
We would like to receive the proposals by January 10, 2006.

SUBMISSION OF PAPERS:

Prospective authors are invited to submit their draft
paper (about 5 to 8 pages - single space, font size of 10
to 12) to H. R. Arabnia by Feb. 20, 2006. E-mail submissions
in MS document or PDF formats are preferable (Fax or postal
submissions are also fine.) All reasonable typesetting
formats are acceptable (later, the authors of accepted
papers will be asked to follow a particular typesetting
format to prepare their papers for publication.)

The length of the Camera-Ready papers (if accepted) will
be limited to 7 (IEEE style) pages. Papers must not have
been previously published or currently submitted for
publication elsewhere. The first page of the draft paper
should include: title of the paper, name, affiliation,
postal address, E-mail address, telephone number, &
Fax number for each author. The first page should also
include the name of the author who will be presenting
the paper (if accepted) and a maximum of 5 keywords.
Also, the name of the conference that the paper is being
submitted to must be mentioned on the first page.

Papers will be evaluated for originality, significance,
clarity, and soundness. Each paper will be refereed by
two researchers in the topical area. The Camera-Ready
papers will be reviewed by one person.

The Program Committee includes members of chapters
of World Academy of Science (chapters: supercomputing;
scientific computing; artificial intelligence; imaging
science; databases; simulation; software engineering;
embedded systems; internet and web technologies;

LOCATION OF CONFERENCES:

The conferences will be held in the Monte Carlo Resort
hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA (with any overflows at other
near-by hotels). The Monte Carlo Resort is a mega hotel
with excellent conference facilities and over 3,000 rooms.
The hotel is minutes from the airport with 24-hour
shuttle service to and from the airport. This hotel has
many recreational attractions, including: waterfalls,
spa, pools & kiddie pools, sunning decks, Easy River
water ride, wave pool with cascades, lighted tennis
courts, health spa (with workout equipment, whirlpool,
sauna, ...), arcade virtual reality game rooms, nightly
shows, snack bars, a number of restaurants, shopping area,
bars, ... Many of these attractions are open 24 hours a
day & most are suitable for families & children. The
negotiated room rate for conference attendees is very
reasonable. The hotel is within walking distance from
most other attractions (major shopping areas, recreational
destinations, fine dining & night clubs, free street
shows, ...).

Following the success of the first two workshops held in Seoul (Korea),

GECON 2006 invites researchers and practitioners to present and discuss

the Grid Economics and Business Models, with particular emphasis on the

operational and deployment issues.

Grid computing systems utilize the heterogeneous networked resources

(computation, information, database, storage, bandwidth, etc.) through the

Internet. The systems can operate in predefined and organized ways or

form the collected resource systems through self-organizing and

decentralized ways. Even with the various types of abundant resources in

the Internet, the resources that can be organized and operated in the

presence of multiple resource owners with the uncertainty of resource

availability and quality are scarce.

Therefore, managing and operating such scarce resources in the Grid

systems would bring the need of the economy which will value the need

and availability of various types of resources. The creation of stable and

scalable economy will support the successful deployment and operation of

Global Grid systems in the Internet. This Second International Workshop on

Grid Economics and Business Models invites the researchers and

The 2006 IEEE International Conference on Services Computing (SCC 2006) is celebrating the 60th Anniversary of IEEE Computer Society! Building on its great success in 2004 and 2005, SCC 2006 continues to bridge the gap between Services Computing and Business models with an emerging suite of ground-breaking technology that includes service-oriented architecture, business process integration and management, grid/utility/autonomic computing and mobile computing such as ad-hoc networks (MANETs). SCC 2006 will be co-located with the 2006 IEEE International Conference on Web Services (ICWS 2006), the 30th Annual International Computer Software and Applications Conference (COMPSAC 2006), and the 2006 IEEE Workshops on Software Technology and Engineering Practice (STEP 2006). IEEE Services Oriented Architecture (SOA) Industry Summit and IEEE International Services Computing Contest will be featured at this joint event. The theme of SCC 2006 is "Services, Solutions, and Business Models of Services Computing"

Services Computing, as a new cross discipline, addresses how to enable IT technology to help people perform business processes more efficiently and effectively. At the core of a business model is a set of processes that jointly help yield a profit in an organization. As we can see, Services Computing currently shapes the processes of business modeling, business consulting, solution creation, service delivery, and software architecture design, development and deployment. The global nature of Services Computing leads to many opportunities and few challenges and creates a new networked economic structure for supporting different business models. SCC 2006 has the following three major research tracks: Foundations of Services Computing, Services-Centric Business Models, and Business Process Integration and Management.

Authors are invited to submit original, unpublished research papers that are not being considered in another forum. Manuscripts will be limited to 8 (IEEE Proceeding style) pages and be printed on 10 or 11 size font. Please follow the IEEE Computer Society Press Proceedings Author Guidelines to prepare your papers. Electronic submission of manuscripts (in PDF or Word format) is required. Detailed Instructions for electronic paper submission, panel proposals, tutorial proposals, and review process can be found at http://conferences.computer.org/scc/2006/. At least one author of each accepted paper is required to attend the conference and present the paper. The enhanced version of the selected papers published in SCC 2006 will be invited for publication in the International Journal of Business Process Integration and Management (IJBPIM), the International Journal of Web Services Research (JWSR), the International Journal of Grid and Utility Computing (IJGUC), and possibly other reputable journals. One Best Paper award and 1-3 Best Student Paper Awards will be presented by SCC 2006. The first author of the best student papers should be full-time student. ICWS has been a prime international forum for both researchers and industry practitioners to exchange the latest fundamental advances in the state of the art and practice of Web Services. ICWS also aims to identify emerging research topics and define the future of Web Services. Over the past four years, ICWS has grown steadily, attracting over 200 participants on a regular basis. ICWS 2005 was held on July 11-15, 2005 in Orlando, Florida, USA; ICWS 2004 was held on July 6-9, 2004 in San Diego, California, USA; ICWS 2003 was held on June 23-26, 2003 in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

The technical program will include refereed paper presentations, panels, and poster sessions in both research and industry tracks. Workshops and tutorials will run before and throughout the conference.

ICWS 2006 program seeks original, unpublished research papers reporting substantive new work in various aspects of Web services. Papers must properly cite related work and clearly indicate their contributions to the field of Web services. Topics of interest include but not limited to:

* Web Services Standards and Implementation Technologies

* QoS for Web Services (e.g., security, privacy, reliability, performance, fault tolerance, etc.)
* Web Services Assessment (i.e., validation & verification)

* Semantic Web Services
* IT Infrastructure Management for Web Services
* Solution Management for Web Services
* Multimedia Web Services

* Domain Specific Web Services Applications and Solutions

All submitted manuscripts will be peer-reviewed by at least 3 program committee members. Accepted papers will appear in the conference proceedings in both hardcopy and on-line version published by the IEEE Computer Society. Extended versions of selected best papers published in the ICWS 2006 will be invited for publication in the International Journal of Web Services Research (JWSR), the International Journal of Business Process Integration and Management (IJBPIM), and the International Journal of Grid and Utility Computing (IJGUC). Both the ICWS Proceedings and JWSR are included in EI Compendex.

Submitted manuscripts will be limited to 8 (IEEE Proceedings style) pages and required to be formatted using the IEEE Proceedings template. Electronic submission of manuscripts (in PDF or Word format) is required. Detailed instructions for electronic paper preparation and submission, panel proposals, tutorial proposals, and review process can be found at http://conferences.computer.org/icws/2006/. At least one author of each accepted paper is required to register for the conference and present the paper. One Best Paper award and between one to three Best Student Paper Awards will be granted at ICWS 2006. The first author of the best student papers must be full-time student.

If your paper is application or solution oriented, you can consider submitting it to ICWS 2006 Industry Track via its dedicated online submission and review system. Manuscripts submitted to the Research Track focusing on application or solution descriptions may be recommended to the Industry Track for further considerations. Submitted papers with novel ideas but not accepted by the Research Track and Industry Track due to space limitation may also be recommended to the Work-in-Progress Track.

Business Services Networks (BSN's) are business networks, that is, a group of
cooperative organizations either within an enterprise or between different
enterprises, which are based on services. In that context, a service
represents a set of encapsulated IT components implementing specific business
functions. The service interface is self-describing in order to publish,
discover and dynamically bind services using an underlying Service Oriented
Architecture (SOA), most often implemented using Web Services standards.
However, this flexibility with regard to loose-coupling and the
interoperability between cooperative organizations is being
applied in current projects, especially in industrial projects.

This workshop concentrates on all facets of BSN's and the architecture of
service-oriented solutions supporting inter-enterprise collaboration,
throughout the entire collaboration life-cycle. This includes the
consideration of business strategies for the establishment of a BSN with
cooperative organizations from different SOA environments and maturity, as
well as the design of such cooperation and collaboration starting with the
requirements until the final instantiation of the collaboration by
discovering, composing, deploying, and invoking services. Based on the
composed BSN, the cooperation and collaboration brings new research
from the perspectives of business (e.g. provisioning) and technical
(e.g. transactions), e.g. monitoring and auditing in a network of
organizations.

We invite papers addressing business and technical issues of BSN's from
various perspectives, including development strategies of new BSNs,
design of BSNs, as well as management and execution. We encourage
contributions from both academia and industry. Topics of interest

planned to select the best papers for a journal special issue. Further

1. CLDR provides keywords for collation variants. The syntax for that
specification predated RFC3066bis, but will be updated to use that.

2. We had discussed in CLDR having keyword-value pairs for the settings
given in Collation Settings (I just filed an RFE summarizing the goal,
so that it is captured for outsiders). With that, we would have a

“A Dynamic Label Checking Approach for Information Flow Control in Web Services”

Information Flow Control (IFC) is a method of enforcing confidentiality by using labels, data structures for specifying security classifications. IFC is used in programming languages to monitor procedures in an attempt to detect and prevent information leakage. While it ensures greater security, IFC excessively restricts flow of information. This paper presents a model of information flow control using semi-discretionary label structures. The authors propose a set of rules that not only increases the flexibility of IFC but also defines labels as a practical component of a security system. The authors propose a dynamic approach using a centralized model for dynamic label checking and verify the proposed model using theoretical proofs.

“Service-Oriented Solution Framework for Internet Banking”

This paper describes a service-oriented solution framework designed for Internet banking in financial services. A pragmatic approach is developed to help migrate conventional n-tier e-commerce systems to a service-oriented computing paradigm, composed of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), Integration (SOI), Process (SOP), and Management (SOM). This comprehensive framework comprises Service Patterns, Architecture Process, Hybrid Methodology, Service-Oriented Enterprise Model, and Solution Platform. E-business patterns are applied to categorize diverse online services, which form the baseline for subsequent selection justifications of appropriate technologies, products/tools, and infrastructure. A multi-level architecture process is developed to cope with the architecture complexity in a disciplined way. Furthermore, a hybrid methodology is designed to leverage the benefits of both top-down and bottom-up approaches, in which a converging layer is conceived to incorporate the latest technologies such as portal, process orchestration, Web services, service aggregations, business rule engine, and so forth.

“Bandwidth and Latency Considerations for Efficient SOAP Messaging”

Although Web service technology is being used in more and more distributed systems, its areas of application are inherently limited by high latencies and high amounts of protocol overhead. For messaging in environments with user interaction, like Web platforms for business or multimedia applications, the response time of the whole system needs to be kept in tight boundaries. In other scenarios including mobile communication and battery-powered devices, bandwidth-efficient communication is imperative. In this paper, the authors address both of these issues. First they conduct a detailed latency analysis of different transport mechanisms for SOAP and then thoroughly investigate their protocol overhead. For both aspects the authors present a theoretical analysis as well as experimental measurement results. A new transport binding called PURE is then introduced.

Dynamic changes of services and requirements require service connection relationships adaptable in service compositions. This paper presents an adaptable service connector model and related language and tools. The model presents service connection relationships as an explicit component with which service connections can be reconfigured and changes of services involved in the interaction can be handled; this makes the service connection relationships more adaptive. With the language and tools supporting the model, services can be dynamically chained, which make service-oriented applications adapt to volatile business requirements and dynamic changeable services. The related case study and evaluation are also presented in this paper.

In this paper, the authors address the question, “In the brave new world of Web services and service-oriented architectures (SOA), how does data fit in?” They bring data modeling concepts to bear on the world of services, yielding an approach in which enterprise data access is handled by a collection of interrelated data services. It is then shown how the approach can be realized on a foundation of XML standards, namely XML Schema, Web services, and XQuery. The authors show that this approach provides a uniform and declarative framework for integrating enterprise data assets that are drawn from disparate underlying sources, including both queryable and non-queryable data sources as well as data that is encapsulated by Web services. How the approach yields data services that are easily and efficiently reusable is also explained.

--- OVERVIEW ---

The Global Integration Summit (GIS) is the annual meeting of the
Integration Consortium (IC), the non-profit, user-driven association
of IT professionals focused on application, information, process,
service, and system integration technologies.

The GIS differs from other industry events as it is truly user-driven
and vendor-neutral. With an attendance hovering above 200 every year,
and involving senior integration executives from leading Global 2000
corporations, the event offers a personal atmosphere for networking.

--- THEME ---

For our 3rd edition, the theme "Integration For Everyone" seeks to
build a unified view of the Integration Discipline. One outcome of the
Summit should be to develop a new Integration Body of Knowledge (I-BOK)
As such, we welcome IT thought leaders from industry, vendors, analysts,
and academia to expose the "State of the Art" in integration solutions.

--- TOPICS ---

Topics can range from business drivers for integration such as
Governance and Regulatory Compliance, to integration approaches and
platforms such as the Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Business
Process Management (BPM), to technical infrastructure issues such as
Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) and Open Source Middleware.

Papers can take the form of conceptual frameworks, research in progress,
best practice reports, case studies, and executive viewpoints.

We welcome papers that contribute to enriching the I-BOK. Please see

The 2006 IEEE International Conference on Services Computing (SCC 2006) is celebrating the 60th Anniversary of IEEE Computer Society! Building on its great success in 2004 and 2005, SCC 2006 continues to bridge the gap between Services Computing and Business models with an emerging suite of ground-breaking technology that includes service-oriented architecture, business process integration and management, grid/utility/autonomic computing and mobile computing such as ad-hoc networks (MANETs). SCC 2006 will be co-located with the 2006 IEEE International Conference on Web Services (ICWS 2006), the 30th Annual International Computer Software and Applications Conference (COMPSAC 2006), and the 2006 IEEE Workshops on Software Technology and Engineering Practice (STEP 2006). IEEE Services Oriented Architecture (SOA) Industry Summit and IEEE International Services Computing Contest will be featured at this joint event. The theme of SCC 2006 is "Services, Solutions, and Business Models of Services Computing"

Services Computing, as a new cross discipline, addresses how to enable IT technology to help people perform business processes more efficiently and effectively. At the core of a business model is a set of processes that jointly help yield a profit in an organization. As we can see, Services Computing currently shapes the processes of business modeling, business consulting, solution creation, service delivery, and software architecture design, development and deployment. The global nature of Services Computing leads to many opportunities and few challenges and creates a new networked economic structure for supporting different business models. SCC 2006 has the following three major research tracks: Foundations of Services Computing, Services-Centric Business Models, and Business Process Integration and Management.

Authors are invited to submit original, unpublished research papers that are not being considered in another forum. Manuscripts will be limited to 8 (IEEE Proceeding style) pages and be printed on 10 or 11 size font. Please follow the IEEE Computer Society Press Proceedings Author Guidelines to prepare your papers. Electronic submission of manuscripts (in PDF or Word format) is required. Detailed Instructions for electronic paper submission, panel proposals, tutorial proposals, and review process can be found at http://conferences.computer.org/scc/2006/. At least one author of each accepted paper is required to attend the conference and present the paper. The enhanced version of the selected papers published in SCC 2006 will be invited for publication in the International Journal of Business Process Integration and Management (IJBPIM), the International Journal of Web Services Research (JWSR), the International Journal of Grid and Utility Computing (IJGUC), and possibly other reputable journals. One Best Paper award and 1-3 Best Student Paper Awards will be presented by SCC 2006. The first author of the best student papers should be full-time student.
