The poster track of the ESWC2010 will provide an opportunity for
presenting late-breaking results, ongoing research projects, and
speculative or innovative work in progress. Posters are intended to
provide authors and participants with the ability to connect with each
other and to engage in discussions about the work. Technical posters,
reports on semantic systems, descriptions of completed work, and work in
progress are equally welcome.

Authors must submit a 2-page paper (PDF, Springer LNCS style) with a
short abstract for evaluation. The paper must clearly demonstrate
relevance to the Semantic Web and the topics of interest of ESWC2010.
Submissions will be evaluated by a separate Program Committee. Decisions
about acceptance will be based on relevance to the Semantic Web area,
originality, potential significance, topicality and clarity. Papers that
exceed the given page length or do not follow the LNCS guidelines risk
being rejected without a review.

Papers submitted to the research track will NOT automatically be
considered for the poster track. A separate poster submission must be
made. For example, a poster can be provided for an accepted paper or can
be used to present work that was insufficiently mature for the research
track.

The ESWC is the leading European conference on theory, practice and
applications of Semantic Web technologies, attracting an increasing
number of participants from various communities and sectors.
The demonstrations track of the ESWC2010 complements the overall program
of the conference with demonstrations of real-world, proven-and-tested
advances of semantic technologies. In addition to papers and posters
presenting latest theoretical achievements the ESWC2010 is seeking
demonstrations of novel applications of semantics in various sectors, as
well as innovative enabling technologies and deployment infrastructures
relevant for the topics of interest t the main conference and the
research and poster tracks.

Submissions to the demonstrations track must be in form of a textual
description of the demonstration to be given at the conference. The
submissions must be maximally 5 pages long and formatted according to
the Springer LNCS style. They should be submitted as PDF using the
conference submission system.

Accepted submissions to the demonstrations track will be published as
part of the ESWC2010 proceedings. As such, the quality assurance will be
strict, and the demonstrations will be subject to review by a separate
Program Committee. Proposed demonstrations must show relevance, novelty
and significance to the topics of the conference. The associated textual
descriptions should contain sections answering the following questions,
as appropriate:

1.What is the research background and application context of the
demonstration?
2.What is the key technology used, and how does the demonstrated system,
application or infrastructure relate to pre-existing work?
3.What exactly will be demonstrated? What exactly will a visitor of the
demonstration learn?

Integrating agent and semantic Web technologies in order to extend the
ability of programs have long been hailed as the most efficient way to serve
users. The idea is to significantly affect performance of application
software employing cooperating multi-agent systems through the use of
semantic Web services and domain ontologies. The Semantic Web has matured to
a great extent with ontology-based applications being built by several major
enterprises. However, research and development concerned with the
integration of the semantic Web and software agent technologies are moving
at snails pace. To bring our contribution, we initiated around November
2005, the series of IEEE International Workshop on Engineering Semantic
Agent Systems in conjunction with the 30th International Computer Software
and Applications Conference (COMPSAC 2006) in Chicago, Illinois, USA. After
four annual workshops, preparing to announce the fifth, and two journal
special issues on this theme, we are soliciting contributions from research
experts and practitioners for an edited volume in the series Studies in
Computational Intelligence (http://www.springer.com/series/7092) by
Springer-Verlag.

Agent Systems along the aspects of foundation, theory, models, engineering,
and applications. Substantially revised and extended versions of papers
presented at conferences and workshops are also encouraged provided that the
new content exceeds 50% of the paper. A 2-page chapter proposal may be
uploaded to the submission site

As part of the 2010 Spring Simulation Multi-conference (SpringSim'10)

the 2010 Agent-Directed Simulation Symposium is a premier platform to
explore all three aspects of the synergy of simulation and agent
technologies. Hence, it has a special place within simulation and
agent conferences, including agent-based (social) simulation
conferences. Therefore the ADS symposium fills a gap in the agent
community as well as the simulation community.

The purpose of the ADS symposium is to facilitate dissemination of the
most recent advancements in the theory, methodology, application, and
toolkits of agent-directed simulation. Agent-directed simulation is
comprehensive in the integration of agent and simulation technologies,
by including models that use agents to develop domain-specific
simulations, i.e., agent simulation (this is often referred to as
agent-based simulation -when other two important aspects are not
considered), and by also including the use of agent technology to
develop simulation techniques and toolkits that are subsequently
applied, either with or without agents.

Hence, agent-directed simulation consists of three distinct, yet
related areas that can be grouped under two categories as follows:

1. Simulation for Agents (agent simulation): simulation of agent
systems in engineering, human and social dynamics, military
applications etc.
2. Agents for Simulation (which has two aspects): agent-supported
simulation deals with the use of agents as a support facility to
enable computer assistance in problem solving or enhancing
cognitive capabilities; and agent-based simulation that focuses
on the use of agents for the generation of model behavior in a
simulation study.

Through the theme of agent-directed simulation, the symposium will
bring together agent technologies, tools, toolkits, platforms,
languages, methodologies, and applications in a pragmatic manner. In
this symposium, established researchers, educators, and students are
encouraged to come together and discuss the benefits of agent
technology in their use and application for simulation. It is a way
for people to discuss why and how they have used agent technology in
their simulations, and describe the benefit of having done so.

The theme of ADS'10 is based on the observation of the following
premises.

* The growth of new advanced distributed computing standards along
with the rapid rise of e-commerce are providing a new context that
acts as a critical driver for the development of next generation
systems. These standards revolve around service-oriented
technologies, pervasive computing, web-services, Grid, autonomic
computing, ambient intelligence etc. The supporting role that
intelligent agents play in the development of such systems is
becoming pervasive, and simulation plays a critical role in the
analysis and design of such systems.

* The use of emergent agent technologies at the organization,
interaction (e.g., coordination, negotiation, communication) and
agent levels (i.e. reasoning, autonomy) are expected to advance
the state of the art in various application technologies is
difficult. Using agent-supported simulation techniques for
testing complex agent systems is up and coming field.

* To facilitate bridging the gap between research and application,
there is a need for tools, agent programming languages, and
methodologies to analyze, design, and implement complex,
non-trivial agent-based simulations. Existing agent-based
simulation tools are still not mature enough to enable developing
agents with varying degrees cognitive and reasoning capabilities.

ADS'10 will provide a leading forum to bring together researchers and
practitioners from diverse simulation societies within computer science,
social sciences, engineering, business, education, human factors, and
systems engineering. The involvement of various agent-directed
simulation groups will enable the cross-fertilization of ideas and
development of new perspectives by fostering novel advanced solutions,
as well as enabling technologies for agent-directed simulation

AUTHOR GUIDE

* Technical papers provide a longer format for presenting experience
reports, research results, or descriptions of "work in progress".
They are limited to 8 pages.

* Short position papers are targeted at raising a question or framing
an issue for discussion during the symposium. Position papers are
limited to 3 pages.

* Poster presentations present an opportunity to present work in
progress and receive feedback from colleagues. A one page write-up
of the poster presentations will be included in the proceedings.

All papers will be subject to a peer-reviewing process by three program

FINAL PAPER SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

All prospective authors, whose papers are accepted for inclusion in the
program, will be invited to submit their position or technical papers
to ADS'10. Accepted and registered papers will be published in the
conference proceedings by the SCS. In addition, the committee will
select a set of best papers. Authors of these papers will be encouraged to
submit appropriately expanded versions of these papers for journal
publication.

OVERVIEW

The problem of semantic misalignment - of two (or more) systems failing
to understand one another when their semantic representation is not
identical - occurs in a huge variety of areas: the Semantic Web,
databases, natural language processing; anywhere, indeed, where
semantics are necessary but centralised control is undesirable or
impractical. In highly dynamic domains, where interactions are between
a large, diverse and evolving community, there is a need for the
resolving of these misalignments - through developing and evolving
existing ontologies or interpreting unknown ontologies in terms of
known ones - to be done automatically and on-the-fly.

The aim of this workshop is to bring together researchers interested in
the problems of automated development, evolution and interpretation of
ontologies in the many different domains in which it occurs. We are
primarily interested in the exchange of ideas and the stimulation of
debate, and the workshop is intended to be a forum for researchers to
present ongoing work and ideas and to engage in discussion with other
researchers from the field. We are particularly interested in novel
ideas and innovative research, which may be in its early stages, and
encourage reports on work in progress.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

We encourage the submission of extended abstracts of 2-5 pages that
discuss ongoing research, problem descriptions and overviews of the
domain. Accepted papers will be included in the AISB 2010 proceedings
unless the authors prefer them not to be (for example, if the work is
very similar to work presented elsewhere which they nevertheless feel
it would be valuable to present in this context, or if the work is at
a stage where discussion would be valuable but publication would be
premature). Authors wishing their submissions to be included in the
convention proceedings must follow the style guide on the convention
website.

Submissions will be subject to light reviewing, mainly intended to
check fit to workshop.

Abstracts should be submitted electronically in pdf format to
mchan-at-ed.ac.uk by 18th December 2009. Notification of acceptance
will be sent to the submitting author on 15th February 2010.

VENUE

The workshop will take place at De Montfort University in Leicester,
as part of the AISB 2010 Convention
(http://www.aisb.org.uk/convention/aisb10/), from March 31st to 1st
April, 2010. All workshop participants must be registered for the AISB
2010 Convention. Registration for this workshop is included in the
convention registration fee.

PROGRAMME

Presentations: Authors of accepted abstracts will give presentations of

session of 5 minute poster talks.

Panel: The technical programme will end with a 90 minute panel
discussion on a topic of mutual interest to be decided. Three speakers
will speak for 10 minutes each with a brief to stimulate debate during
the remaining 60 minutes. Discussion amongst all participants, rather
than question-and-answering for the panel, will be strongly encouraged.

Modern web applications like Wikis, social networking sites and
mashups, are radically changing the nature of modern Web from a
publishing-only environment into a vivant place for information
exchange. The successful exploitation of this information largely
depends on the ability to successfully communicate the data semantics,
which is exactly the vision of the Semantic Web. In this context, new
challenges emerge for semantic-aware data management systems.

The contribution of the data management community in the Semantic Web
effort is fundamental. RDF has already been adopted as the
representation model and exchange format for the semantics of the data
on the Web. Although, until recently, RDF had not received
considerable attention, the recent publication in RDF format of large
ontologies with millions of entities from sites like Yahoo! and
Wikipedia, the huge amounts of microformats in RDF from life science
organizations, and the gigantic RDF bibliographic annotations from
publishers, have made clear the need for advanced management
techniques for RDF data.

On the other hand, traditional data management techniques have a lot
to gain by incorporating semantic information into their
frameworks. Existing data integration, exchange and query solutions
are typically based on the actual data values stored in the
repositories, and not on the semantics of these values. Incorporation
of semantics in the data management process improves query accuracy,
and permit more efficient and effective sharing and distribution
services. Integration of new content, on-the-fly generation of
mappings, queries on loosely structured data, keyword searching on
structured data repositories, and entity identification, are some of
the areas that can benefit from the presence of semantic knowledge
alongside the data.

The goal of DESWeb is to bring together researchers and practitioners
from both fields of Data Management and Semantic Web. It aims at
investigating the new challenges that Semantic Web technologies have
introduced and new ways through which these technologies can improve
existing data management solutions. Furthermore, it intends to study
what data management systems and technologies can offer in order to
improve the scalability and performance of Semantic Web applications.

Semantic Web Languages in the Real World

The Semantic Web is a broad vision of the future of personal
computing, emphasizing the use of sophisticated knowledge
representation as the basis for end-user applications' data modeling
and management needs. Key to the pervasive adoption of Semantic Web
technologies is a good set of fundamental "building blocks" - the most
important of these are representation languages themselves. W3C's
standard languages for the Semantic Web, RDF and OWL, have been around
for several years; instead of strict standards compliance, we see
"variants" of these languages emerge in applications, often tailored
to a particular application's needs. These variants are often either
subsets of OWL or supersets of RDF, typically with fragments OWL
added. Extensions based on rules, such as SWRL and N3 logic, have been
developed as well as enhancements to the SPARQL query language and
protocol.

In this workshop we will explore the landscape of RDF, OWL and SPARQL
variants, specifically from the standpoint of "real-world
semantics". Are there commonalities in these variants that might
suggest new standards or new versions of the existing standards? We
hope to identify common requirements of applications consuming
Semantic Web data and understand the pros and cons of a strictly
formal approach to modeling data versus a "scruffier" approach where
semantics are based on application requirements and implementation
restrictions.

The workshop will encourage active audience participation and
discussion and includes a keynote by Sandro Hawke (W3C) as well as a
panel to be moderated by Jim Hendler (RPI).

Requesting the RDF MIME type of an image

Hello there,

I'm researching into the semantic analysis of complementary resources
right now, and I'm about to start work on an automated image annotator.

I have got to the stage of my RDF file being generated and I'm now
trying to figure out a way for the user or their application to
retrieve the RDF version of the image.

I have found a couple of helpful things from [ http://www.w3.org/TR/photo-rdf/
];

"The RDF can be also be fetched directly without doing Content
Negotiation, by just adding the wanted MIME type after a semicoln (;)
e.g.: foo.jpg;application%2Frdf+xml ("%2F" is "/", escaped for
occurrence in a URL.)"

This doesn't work for me on the image set [ http://jigsaw.w3.org/Yves/Australia/1998/04/
] which are supposed to support RDF metadata.

I also saw somewhere that you can actually embed the RDF data inside a
COM comment in the image too.

*** There's not much else to dig around in on this topic by the looks
of things, could anyone give me a pointer?

To meet this increasing demand on mobile commerce and mobile services, people are looking for innovative ideas to create next generation mobile-commerce applications and service systems. Mobile commerce and services has become a very hot research subject in both business and research communities. Workshop History and Likely Participants:
Since 2004, we have successfully organized and delivered a number of international workshops (WMCS2004, WMCS2005, WMCS2006, EMOBS07, WMCS2008, and WMCS2009) onthe same subject. The workshop aims at attracting both researchers from academic and industrial institutions and practitioners from industry. The subject of this workshop has sincebecomea hot research topic. We expect to receive 30-60 submissions, and accept 10-20 papers. This predication is based on based on our experience in organizing past workshops WMCS2005, WMCS2006, WMCS 2008,and WMCS2009.
Submission:
Original papers that are not published previously or under review by other journals or conferences will be considered. All submitted papers will be evaluated according to their originality, significance, correctness, presentation and relevance. Workshop Format:
The workshop will consist of four sessions, each 95 minutes of duration. The first session will start with a welcome and an introduction to the general topics of the workshop. This session will also include an overview of the presentations which will be given during the workshop. After this welcome and introduction part, the technical part of the workshop will start. The technical part will contain the presentations. After the technical part in the last session, the presentations and also discussions will be briefly summarized. Besides a summary of presentations discussions, the last session will also include a roadmap for further work which will aim at initiating cooperation among the attendees of the workshop.
Each presentation will be 20 minutes in length with additional 5 minutes for discussions and questions so that in each session 4 papers will be presented. Taking into account the welcome/introduction in the first session and the summary/roadmap in the last session, the workshop will host 14 presentations.
Expected Achievements:
The organizers intend to achieve an overview of the current research in the area of engineering wireless-based systems and applications. Furthermore, a roadmap will be developed together with the attendees of the workshop with the goal ofinitiatingcooperation among the attendees. Selected best papers will be published in Journal of Theoretical and Applied Electronic Commerce Research.

CALL FOR WORKSHOP PROPOSALS
The Twenty-Second International Conference on Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering (SEKE'2010) will be held at the Hotel Sofitel, Redwood City, San Francisco Bay, USA, July 1-3, 2010.

The conference aims at bringing together experts in software engineering and knowledge engineering to discuss on relevant results in either software engineering or knowledge engineering or both. Special emphasis
will be put on the transference of methods between both domains.

We invite the experts on related research subjects to submit workshop proposals in conjunction with SEKE2010. These workshops provide the imminent opportunities for students, researchers, and industry
practitioners to investigate, discover, and exchange new research ideas, problems, challenges, and solutions on specific emerging areas in Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering. The accepted papers for
the conjunct workshops will be reviewed and published in the Proceeding of SEKE2010 conference.

We encourage the interested workshop organizers to send us half-day (or one-day) workshop proposals in the scope of SEKE2010 or related emerging subjects. Some possible areas (but not limited to) are listed as

Aim & Scope

The primary objective of this workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners from industry who tackle semantic service discovery from various points of view. 	Doug Lenat - Mistakes Were Made Douglas Lenat founded and has run the Cyc project since 1984, leading a team building a large and broad ontology, knowledge base, and inference engine. This talk will describe some of the lessons learned along the way, ranging from representation of knowledge, to choice of what knowledge to represent, to knowledge acquisition methodologies, to reasoning strategies and tactics. It will showcase some of the applications that forced Cyc to grapple with large amounts of data, multiple sources, contradictory information, and so on, which have largely come from the intelligence community and (perhaps surprisi gly, to this audience) from the clinical research community. Dr. Lenat's work in machine learning won the Computers and Thought Award; he helped establish the AAAI, and is a Fellow of the AAAI and of the AAAS. Prior to Cyc, Dr. Lenat was a computer science faculty member at Stanford and CMU, and he will briefly touch on a few "learning experiences" he had back then, that laid the foundation for his being able to make the mistakes of the last 25 years.

Proposal for Tutorials, Special Sessions, Panels and Exhibitions VCIP’2010 will include a number of special

sessions. Proposals for special sessions should be made according to the guidelines in the VCIP’2010 Call for

Special Sessions (http://vcip2010.ustc.edu.cn/special_sessions.htm) and submitted by Nov. 7, 2009. All papers for
special sessions are submitted as regular papers for review by Dec. 6. 2009.
Tutorials will be held on July 11, 2010. Proposals for tutorials should include a title, an outline of the

tutorial and its motivation, contact and bio information for the presenter(s), and a short description of the

material to be covered. Proposals for Panel sessions should include the title and panel list. Proposals for

tutorials and panels should be submitted by Jan. 25, 2010.
VCIP’2010 will also feature a demo session. Proposals of technical demonstrations should be made according to the

MODULARITY, as studied for many years in software engineering, allows
mechanisms for easy and flexible reuse, generalization, structuring,
maintenance, design patterns, and comprehension. Applied to ontology
engineering, modularity is central not only to reduce the complexity
of understanding ontologies, but also to facilitate ontology
maintenance and ontology reasoning.

Recent research on ontology modularity shows substantial progress in
foundations of modularity, techniques of modularization and modular
development, distributed reasoning and empirical evaluation. These
results provide a foundation for further research and development.

The workshop follows a series of successful events that have been an
excellent venue for practitioners and researchers to discuss latest
work and current problems, and is this time organised as a satellite
workshop of FOIS 2010, as well as being co-located with several other
relevant events, namely KR, AAMAS, ICAPS, NMR, and DL.

TOPICS include, but are not limited to:

- What is Modularity: Kinds of modules and their properties; modules
vs. contexts; design patterns; granularity of representation;

- Logical/Foundational Studies: Conservativity; modular ontology
languages (e.g., DDL, E-Connections, P-DL); reconciling
inconsistencies across modules; formal structuring of modules;
heterogeneity;

- Algorithmic Approaches: distributed reasoning; modularization and
module extraction; (selective) sharing and re-using, linking and
importing; hiding and privacy; evaluation of modularization
approaches; complexity of reasoning; reasoners or implemented systems;

- Applications: Semantic Web; Life Sciences; Bio-Ontologies; Natural
Language Processing; ontologies of space and time; Ambient
Intelligence; collaborative ontology development; etc.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

The workshop welcomes submission of high quality original and
previously unpublished papers.

Contributions should not exceed 13 pages in length and must be
formatted according to IOS Press style (see
http://www.iospress.nl/authco/instruction_crc.html ).
Contributions should be prepared in PDF format and submitted not later
than January 29 2010 through the EasyChair Submission System (see
http://www.informatik.uni-bremen.de/~okutz/womo4 ).

Submitted papers will be peer-reviewed by members of the program
committee. Accepted papers may be extended up to 16 pages and will be
published as chapters in an IOS Press book in the series 'Frontiers in

substantially extended versions to a planned special issue on

The proposed conference on the above them will be be held at London Metropolitan University, London, United Kingdom from August 4 to August 6, 2010 which aims to enable researchers build connections between different digital applications.

Currently a number of institutions across the countries are working to evolve better models to provide collaborative technology services for scholarship by creating shared cyberspace thro expert collaboration, but this is a challenge for the institutions for a number of reasons. In the last few years, the landscape of digital technology applications projects for the various disciplines in humanities, social sciences, and sciences appears induced by many initiatives. For the creation of research clusters, the research community has thousands of databases, websites, local computing clusters, and web-based tools around individual themes, interests and projects. In most cases, these tools and resources are and were created to meet the specific needs of a particular community. In many cases, the funding and support for these critical initiatives is fragile and temporary, and directed in piecemeal fashion. Invitation, Qualitative and Quantitative Methods in Libraries International Conference (QQML2010) Abstract/Paper submission and Special Session and Workshop Proposals

You are kindly invited to participate in the 2nd Qualitative and Quantitative Methods in Libraries International Conference (QQML2010), Chania, Crete, Greece, 25-28 of May, 2010.
QQML2010 was decided by the QQML Committee and announced during the closing ceremony of the previous QQML2009 Conference.
The proceedings of QQML2010 will be published by an international publisher, while selected papers are to be published by the International journals: Decision Support System Technology, Library Management, and Performance Measurement and Metrics.
The previous QQML2009 proceedings volume titled: "Qualitative and Quantitative Methods in Libraries: Theory and Applications" will be published by World Scientific and it will be distributed during the forthcoming QQML2010 International Conference.
QQML2010 is organized under the umbrella of ASMDA International Society organising conferences on data analysis from 1981.

Qualitative and Quantitative Methods (QQM) are proved more and more popular tools for Librarians, because of their usefulness to the everyday professional life. QQM aim to the assessment and improvement of the services, to the measurement of the functional effectiveness and efficiency. QQM are the mean to make decisions on fund allocation and financial alternatives. Librarians use also QQM in order to determine why and when their users appreciate their services. This is the start point of the innovation involvement and the ongoing procedure of the excellent performance. Systematic development of quality management in libraries requires a detailed framework, including the quality management standards, the measurement indicators, the self-appraisal schedules and the operational rules. These standards are practice-oriented tools and a benchmarking result. Their basic function is to express responsibly the customer (library user) -supplier (library services) relationship and provide a systematic approach to the continuous change onto excellence. The indoor and outdoor relationships of libraries are dependent of their communication and marketing capabilities, challenges, opportunities and implementation programmes.

The Conference will attend library professionals: professors, administrators, technologists, museum scientists, archivists, decision makers and managers.

If you propose a Special Session including 4-6 papers, the papers will be included into the book as a Specific Chapter under the title of the special session.

Dear Colleague,

As you may know we are organising the Special Session SS5 on “The Virtual Physiological Human (VPH) project and Imaging in Biomechanics” as part of the 9th International Symposium on Computer Methods in Biomechanics and Biomedical Engineering (http://www.cmbbe2010.cf.ac.uk), to be held in Valencia on the 24th-27th February 2010.

This session will focus on patient-specific modeling and simulation of various body systems functioning in the framework of the Virtual Physiological Human (VPH) calls of EU FP7 (http://vphop.eu/) and on image processing and analysis in biomechanics. Nowadays, multistage investigations aim at tackling time and length scales involved in the behaviour of biological and biomechanical systems (e.g., blood circulation, ventilation, digestion, renal purification, musculoskeletal apparatus, tumour growth, etc.) that sense, react, and adapt to environmental loadings, and in the study of that behavior from images.

Topics include (but not limited to) enhanced bio mathematical and biomechanical models, data mining and visualization, image segmentation, motion tracking, image alignment and registration, 3D reconstruction, medical imaging, applications of imaging processing and experiments for validation.

We are now looking for novel research papers addressing these topics.

Given your track record in this area, we would like to invite you to submit an abstract to this special session. There is not much time remaining as the deadline for abstract submission is October 16th 2009, however we hope that you or one of your colleagues may consider submitting an abstract on this topic.

OVERVIEW

The problem of semantic misalignment - of two (or more) systems failing
to understand one another when their semantic representation is not
identical - occurs in a huge variety of areas: the Semantic Web,
databases, natural language processing; anywhere, indeed, where
semantics are necessary but centralised control is undesirable or
impractical. In highly dynamic domains, where interactions are between
a large, diverse and evolving community, there is a need for the
resolving of these misalignments - through developing and evolving
existing ontologies or interpreting unknown ontologies in terms of
known ones - to be done automatically and on-the-fly.

The aim of this workshop is to bring together researchers interested in
the problems of automated development, evolution and interpretation of
ontologies in the many different domains in which it occurs. We are
primarily interested in the exchange of ideas and the stimulation of
debate, and the workshop is intended to be a forum for researchers to
present ongoing work and ideas and to engage in discussion with other
researchers from the field. We are particularly interested in novel
ideas and innovative research, which may be in its early stages, and
encourage reports on work in progress.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

We encourage the submission of extended abstracts of 2-5 pages that
discuss ongoing research, problem descriptions and overviews of the
domain. Accepted papers will be included in the AISB 2010 proceedings
unless the authors prefer them not to be (for example, if the work is
very similar to work presented elsewhere which they nevertheless feel
it would be valuable to present in this context, or if the work is at
a stage where discussion would be valuable but publication would be
premature). Authors wishing their submissions to be included in the
convention proceedings must follow the style guide on the convention
website.

Submissions will be subject to light reviewing, mainly intended to
check fit to workshop.

Abstracts should be submitted electronically in pdf format to
mchan-at-ed.ac.uk by 18th December 2009. Notification of acceptance
will be sent to the submitting author on 15th February 2010.

VENUE

The workshop will take place at De Montfort University in Leicester,
as part of the AISB 2010 Convention
(http://www.aisb.org.uk/convention/aisb10/), from March 31st to 1st
April, 2010. All workshop participants must be registered for the AISB
2010 Convention. Registration for this workshop is included in the
convention registration fee.

PROGRAMME

Presentations: Authors of accepted abstracts will give presentations of
their work; exact times to be decided.

Posters: If it is not possible to fit in presentations for all accepted
authors, some may be asked to present posters instead. There will be a
session of 5 minute poster talks.

Panel: The technical programme will end with a 90 minute panel
discussion on a topic of mutual interest to be decided. Three speakers
will speak for 10 minutes each with a brief to stimulate debate during
the remaining 60 minutes. Discussion amongst all participants, rather
than question-and-answering for the panel, will be strongly encouraged.

The Asian Semantic Web Conference is the yearly conference on
theoretical foundations, technological building blocks and practical
applications of semantic technologies on the Asian continent. Targeted
at both academia and industry, the conference will present the latest
research and development of the Semantic Web and its related
technologies. It will bring together researchers in relevant disciplines
such as artificial intelligence, knowledge modeling, logic, databases,
social networks, Web services, distributed computing, Web engineering,
information systems, natural language processing, multimedia, and
human-computer interaction.

As integral part of this conference, the poster and demo track is an
opportunity for researchers and developers to present late-breaking
achievements, ongoing projects, and innovative early ideas. It should
provide authors and attendees a forum for exchanging experiences and
establishing potential future collaborations.

We welcome different types of poster submissions, ranging from
descriptions of completed research and work in progress to more
technical topics and practical applications.

Demo submissions are intended to showcase innovative Semantic Web
implementations and technologies. Demos are intended to convey a
scientific result or work in progress and are not intended as
advertisements for software packages.

A detailed list of suggested topics can be found in the Call for Papers
of the main conference.

*Submissions*

Poster and Demo submissions must be written in English and must be no
longer than 2 pages. The maximum number of pages allowed includes all
figures. Papers must be submitted in PDF (Adobe's Portable Document
Format) format and must be formatted in the style of the Springer
Publications for Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS).

Papers that exceed the 2 pages limit, do not follow the LNCS guidelines
or are not submitted as PDF documents will be automatically rejected
without a review.

Full papers rejected in the other tracks, notably the research track of
ASWC2009, will not automatically be considered for the poster track. A
separate poster submission must be made. A poster can be provided in
addition to a paper accepted for presentation in the research track or
can be used to present work that was insufficiently mature to be
accepted there.

Submissions will be evaluated for acceptability by a committee of
independent reviewers. Decisions about acceptance will be based on
relevance to the call, originality, potential impact and quality of the
presentation.

the 2010 Agent-Directed Simulation Symposium is a premier platform to
explore all three aspects of the synergy of simulation and agent
technologies. Hence, it has a special place within simulation and
agent conferences, including agent-based (social) simulation
conferences. Therefore the ADS symposium fills a gap in the agent
community as well as the simulation community.

The purpose of the ADS symposium is to facilitate dissemination of the
most recent advancements in the theory, methodology, application, and
toolkits of agent-directed simulation. Agent-directed simulation is
comprehensive in the integration of agent and simulation technologies,
by including models that use agents to develop domain-specific
simulations, i.e., agent simulation (this is often referred to as
agent-based simulation -when other two important aspects are not
considered), and by also including the use of agent technology to
develop simulation techniques and toolkits that are subsequently
applied, either with or without agents.

Hence, agent-directed simulation consists of three distinct, yet
related areas that can be grouped under two categories as follows:

1. Simulation for Agents (agent simulation): simulation of agent
systems in engineering, human and social dynamics, military
applications etc.
2. Agents for Simulation (which has two aspects): agent-supported
simulation deals with the use of agents as a support facility to
enable computer assistance in problem solving or enhancing
cognitive capabilities; and agent-based simulation that focuses
on the use of agents for the generation of model behavior in a
simulation study.

Through the theme of agent-directed simulation, the symposium will
bring together agent technologies, tools, toolkits, platforms,
languages, methodologies, and applications in a pragmatic manner. In
this symposium, established researchers, educators, and students are
encouraged to come together and discuss the benefits of agent
technology in their use and application for simulation. It is a way
for people to discuss why and how they have used agent technology in
their simulations, and describe the benefit of having done so.

The theme of ADS'10 is based on the observation of the following
premises.

* The growth of new advanced distributed computing standards along
with the rapid rise of e-commerce are providing a new context that
acts as a critical driver for the development of next generation
systems. These standards revolve around service-oriented
technologies, pervasive computing, web-services, Grid, autonomic
computing, ambient intelligence etc. The supporting role that
intelligent agents play in the development of such systems is
becoming pervasive, and simulation plays a critical role in the
analysis and design of such systems.

* The use of emergent agent technologies at the organization,
interaction (e.g., coordination, negotiation, communication) and
agent levels (i.e. reasoning, autonomy) are expected to advance
the state of the art in various application technologies is
difficult. Using agent-supported simulation techniques for
testing complex agent systems is up and coming field.

* To facilitate bridging the gap between research and application,
there is a need for tools, agent programming languages, and
methodologies to analyze, design, and implement complex,
non-trivial agent-based simulations. Existing agent-based
simulation tools are still not mature enough to enable developing
agents with varying degrees cognitive and reasoning capabilities.

ADS'10 will provide a leading forum to bring together researchers and
practitioners from diverse simulation societies within computer science,
social sciences, engineering, business, education, human factors, and
systems engineering. The involvement of various agent-directed
simulation groups will enable the cross-fertilization of ideas and
development of new perspectives by fostering novel advanced solutions,
as well as enabling technologies for agent-directed simulation

AUTHOR GUIDE

* Technical papers provide a longer format for presenting experience
reports, research results, or descriptions of "work in progress".
They are limited to 8 pages.

* Short position papers are targeted at raising a question or framing
an issue for discussion during the symposium. Position papers are
limited to 3 pages.

* Poster presentations present an opportunity to present work in
progress and receive feedback from colleagues. A one page write-up
of the poster presentations will be included in the proceedings.

FINAL PAPER SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

All prospective authors, whose papers are accepted for inclusion in the
program, will be invited to submit their position or technical papers
to ADS'10. Accepted and registered papers will be published in the
conference proceedings by the SCS. In addition, the committee will
select a set of best papers. Authors of these papers will be encouraged to
submit appropriately expanded versions of these papers for journal
publication.
