web hostingHi,
We have been running an ISP for 15 years and have decided to outsource pretty much everything. We've got our radius authentication and email outsourced, the only thing left is our web hosting. We have four domains that we currently provide web hosting for and I need to find a cheap reliable hosting company to move these to. I have, of course, google web hosting but there's thousands of them out there. I thought folks on this list might have some suggestions. Thanks, I appreciate any suggestions/advise. Re: web hostingHello Lisa,
Good day! You can check out Fluidhosting.com. They offer FreeBSD based webhosting and technical support is fantastic. 5/5! Very reliable, prices are reasonable and the owner and his staff are pretty much hands on on everything. Check them out. You can actually talk to their staff through an online chat system on their site and can ask and inquire. Hope this helps. Rather than thousands of ISPs that google might find, that might not be especially FreeBSD based, a smaller list is here: http://www.freebsd.org/commercial/isp.html One friend of mine np@... cc'd is at a small so very flexible pretty much entirely FreeBSD based ISP. Another friend mwe@... also cc'd is at another ISP, not sure what percentage FreeBSD, but more bandwidth if you've heavier demand. I guess all ISPs will ask you similar questions re. what you need in way of steady & max traffic load, human support, max % outage per month, 2nd site offset geographic mirroring ?, backup + slave, or cluster, what extras like php mysql whatever else, inc which apache Rev. & a hint of just roughly what ballpark `cheap' falls in, ie roughly how many zeros in what currency per month you'r hoping to pay ? Another FreeBSD shop that's been around a long time is Pair.com. They are a bit pricey, but they have their own datacenter and network and are not just some reseller. I do pity anyone shopping for cheap hosting these days, there are simply too many options... Re: web hostingI've been really happy at RootBSD (http://rootbsd.com/). They don't do
webhosting per se; but they give you a VM with your favorite flavor of BSD installed. Not too expensive. I don't think I've waited more than 30 minutes from the time I put in a ticket until they've dealt with it. They're even making custom bgp announcements for me. Re: web hostingI'd second the rootbsd recommendation if you are up for running it
yourself on a VPS. I do webhosting for my clients on my own servers and use the rootbsd box as a hot failover. nothing but good things to say about them. but like you said there's thousands of managed web hosting companies out there. googling for web hosting reviews might help narrow the selection. good luck, -Dan Sent from mobile device On Nov 6, 2009, at 1:24 PM, "Eric W.
