Hi, hmm, I always thought the official Evolution website is http://projects.gnome.org/evolution/ and the port to MS Windows is just an effort of other people, (more or) less related to Evolution team. The Gnome Windows binaries aren't as that up to date too http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/binaries/win32/evolution/ With respect of versions, the recent stable version is 2.28.1. It's usually better to use the latest, because of bug fixes. Though the 2.22 is a version before movement to db-summary for messages. Maybe try 2.26 and if you think it has some issues, then try 2.22? I do not know, I'm using a development version, and on a Linux machine. Re: why older version on official site ?> why the older version on official website ?
Because nobody cares enough to maintain what versions are offered from where? > and should I use 2.26 confidently ? or use 2.22 from official website ? All builds of Evolution for Windows are so far experimental and come with no promises. Use them at your own risk. --tml _______________________________________________ Evolution-list mailing list Evolution-list@... http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/evolution-list |

Do you suggest using evolution on windows then ? I mean when evolution is not officially maintained and provided for MS Windows.. so is it not better to use any other open-source email client on windows ?. I mean what about stability/reliability of "evolution" for windows ? > The Gnome Windows binaries aren't as that up to date too > http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/binaries/win32/evolution/ who maintains this ? its look like an official website. -ms _______________________________________________ Evolution-list mailing list Evolution-list@... http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/evolution-list |

Re: why older version on official site ?>> The Gnome Windows binaries aren't as that up to date too

And it's not really a website, but a FTP site... The GTK+ stack (libpng, zlib, GLib, atk, Pango, GTK+) binaries there are somewhat "official" and very up-to-date. But the GNOME stack stuff above GTK+ up to and including Evolution is very much less so, as you notice. You can find fresher Win32 binaries of the GNOME stack and Evolution in the openSUSE Build Service, http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/windows:/mingw:/win32/openSUSE_11.0/noarch/ . But you need to learn how to unpack them and how to manage dependencies yourself. And of course, these are experimental, too, with no support. Eventually the stuff on ftp.gnome.org will be superseded by stuff from the openSUSE Build Service (just repackaged as trivial zip files instead of RPM packages), but we are not quite there yet. --tml _______________________________________________ Evolution-list mailing list Evolution-list@... http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/evolution-list |
