xfce4-.+: remove the 4?Hi all,
What about removing the 4 in xfce4 plugins and modules name? This '4' is a version number, not really part of the name... I am aware of the amount of work :-), and I'm not even able to give a try. But will it then stay there forever, and will also there be a '5' for next versions? It's ugly... :-) Ideas? -- Architecte Informatique chez Blueline/Gulfsat: Administration Systeme, Recherche & Developpement +261 34 29 155 34 _______________________________________________ Xfce mailing list Xfce@... http://foo-projects.org/mailman/listinfo/xfce http://www.xfce.org |

Why not? The version certainly can be part of the name. > I am aware of the amount of work :-), and I'm not even able > to give a try. Then why are you suggesting useless make-work? > But will it then stay there forever, and will also there be a > '5' for next versions? Possibly. It's a useful aid to let the user know what's compatible (though, to be fair, the '4' in the name doesn't guarantee compatibility either; c.f. panel 4.0 vs 4.4). > It's ugly... :-) ... in your opinion. > Ideas? I agree, you can't. This has been brought up a couple of times though. The '4' is a bit unusual, but then again, such details in names don't matter too much. If we ever feel like making a big switch, or starting from scratch again, we can of course decide to drop it. But it'll remain at the end of some names until 4.8, 4.10, ..., 4.76 or however far we get with 4.x. - Jannis _______________________________________________ Xfce mailing list Xfce@... http://foo-projects.org/mailman/listinfo/xfce http://www.xfce.org |
