xv750 N00b... PLEASE HELP.

Hey.  Just started riding a xv750.

question 1.  how can i tell what year it is... i've got conflicting info.  ranging from 85-88
And when the insurance was on it they thought it was a 85 Maxim... so that adds to the confustion.

Is there a way to tell the year?

And secondly, i'm a little concerned about the fuel efficiency.
From fill up, i only get about 160Kms (100Miles) before i have to hit the reserve.   i would have thought it would have been a little bit better.
I've pulled the plugs and they look fine, its not buring oil... so i'm just wondering if this is normal..

Look beneath the handlebars on the tube the tripple tree goes through. On one side will be the VIN number and the other side will have the year of manufacture. You can also find out the year by using the VIN number that is stamped on the frame.

Fuel consumption should run between 35 and 45 Miles per Gallon depending on how you ride. My 83 XV920 will get 50 MPG on the highway. Viragos have a small fuel tank and about 100 - 120 miles is all you can expect before going on reserve and then you got about 20 -30 miles max.
