Hello everybody,

I have posted a bug report for debian sid some time ago, but the
maintainer seems to be occupied elsewhere, so I am posting this to the
developers list, hoping for a more effective response.

I have bought a few zd1211b but they did not work here are the reports:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=505143

[11074.920126] firmware: requesting zd1211/zd1211b_ub
[11074.933582] firmware: requesting zd1211/zd1211b_uphr
[11076.041846] usb 5-3: USB control request for firmware upload failed.
Error number -110
[11076.041863] usb 5-3: Could not upload firmware code uph. Error number
-110
[11076.041943] zd1211rw 5-3:1.0: couldn't load firmware. Error number -110

Any ideas?

Best regards,

Jelle

Did you installed the firmware with b43-fwcutter?

What tells:
# ls -al /lib/firmware/zd1211

If not existant:
apt-get install b43-fwcutter
cat /usr/share/doc/b43-fwcutter/README.Debian

Hi Elimar, thank you for taking the time to answer.

I have already installed the zd1211-firmware, you can see in the debian
sid bug report that its installed, and I reported a bug against the
package because it was not working for my device. I got two other zd1211
devices and they seen to work fine.

It would be nice if somebody took the time to just write a small email
on the subject why the device is not working and what is needed to get
it working and what the developers are doing to get all the needed
resources... I feel kind of offended by the fact that I get zero
response on the debian bug reports and almost no constructive info on
the mailinglist so far...

It is very hard to find and buy stable Linux supported wireless usb
dongles without going trough the try and error method every time. I can
select devices on used chipset and sometimes pids but even then some
devices do not work.. it just races a lot of unanswered questions.

Best regards and awaiting response,

Jelle de Jong

The pluscom wu-zd1211B V2.0 still uses the UW2453 RF chip, but for some
reason it is recognised as MAXIM_NEW_RF. There is a quick and dirty way
to get the driver working.

1. download the linux wireless source code

2. add one line  in function int zd_rf_init_hw(struct zd_rf *rf, u8
type) which is in file zd1211rw/zd_rf.c, so it looks like:

        case MAXIM_NEW_RF:
        case UW2453_RF:
                r = zd_rf_init_uw2453(rf);

3. load the zd1211rw module

Good Luck.
Wenguo

Hello Wenguo, thank you for responding. Would it be possible to add this
workaround in the upstream driver, so it becomes available in all
distributions shipping the zd1211 drivers?

Best regards,

Jelle
